Daily Christian Journal: Dealing with People’s Peculiarities in Your Christian Life

The Life of a 21st Century Prophet

The Bible says that we are created in the image of God and yet we are all unique.

There are many things that makes any two people dissimilar; from their characteristics, behavior, personality; our physical traits of even our culture. But the one thing that often causes friction are our preferences.

  • I prefer grapenut ice cream with Chocolate syrup, you prefer plain vanilla.
  • You prefer watching Sunday night football, with the guys. Your wife prefers, to read a book or watch comedies.
  • Your wife prefers that you spend time with her, ask her about her day and you prefer to come in take a shower, have dinner and crash for the night.
  • Your brother keeps a messy room. You wash don’t have a shoe out of place.
  • You love dogs, your family likes cats.
  • You like silence, order and routine. Your neighbors have people over ever night, playing loud music and games.
  • Your roommate prefers to spend wash the dishes in the morning. You prefer a tidy kitchen at all times.

You see, what you might love and enjoy, maybe a source of agitation for someone else.

How you handle this situation determines your future relationship with that individual. So long as that behavior is not immoral or causes harm to another person, then oftentimes, it is best to let that person be; especially if they are the argumentative type that would take offense to your opinions or suggestions.

If you are in a shared environment temporarily, let it go for peace sake. If not, devise a wise course of action.

Let sleeping dogs lie, is a popular and wise saying.

However, many battles are often won on our knees. Pray to God about the matter and yield to His wise guidance.

A soft answer turneth away wrath, but grevious words stir up anger.- Proverbs 15:1

Everybody has their peculiarities or preferences. Be wise as you navigate these landmines.
