The Importance of New Year’s Resolutions & Life Goals

By: Denise N. Fyffe

We have just transitioned into a new year. It is a time to launch our goals and resolutions, which were decided in December. Some people wholly believe in this practice and others do not.

As a Christian, I have learned to trust in this process.

Why, because it focuses me on hearing from God for all aspects of my life and His plans in the earth.

From Dec 1 to Dec 31st, I shunned all distractions, took a break from social media and spiritually tuned into God. Thankfully, I can report that I have come away with a new game plan for my life and ministry in 2019.

Think about it, even Jesus set plans and goals. When he started his ministry, he set out to accomplish certain things with the time He had. And, He left instructions for when He would depart and no longer physically be around to guide new Christians and his disciples. Though he did send the Holy Spirit.

This is a good example to follow. So feel free to look back, assess and make life goals for all aspects of your life – especially the spiritual aspect – because we won’t be here forever.

Be encouraged.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. ~ Proverbs 3:5-6

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. ~ Proverbs 16:3

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps. ~ Proverbs 16:9

“Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that whoever reads it may run with it.” ~ Habakkuk 2:2-3

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. ~ Proverbs 19:21

May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed. ~ Psalm 20:4

But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. ~ Psalm 33:11

“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” ~ Philippians 4:13

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. ~ Psalm 37:4
