The Source of Dreams and Visions

By: Denise N. Fyffe

It is important to understand that dreams and visions may come from multiple sources, and it is also essential to develop the capacity to identify God’s voice. Furthermore, distinguishing between a God dream and a deceptive projection from the devil will also be highly beneficial.

First, there are three sources of dreams or visions. These include:

  • God
  • Satan
  • Yourself, the physical man

God

We started by establishing and explaining that God communicates to us using dreams and visions. The bible provides us with many examples of situations where God intervened and communicated with man through visions and dreams. Many of which we will explore.

Furthermore, God makes it clear that we ought to know His voice.

John 10:14-15 (NIV) states,

“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me. Just as the Father knows me and I know the Father and I lay down my life for the sheep.”

And John 10:27-30 (ESV) adds,

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

This reveals a deeper, and greater purpose that God had for humanity. If we examine the relationship between God and Adam, we will see an example of what it will be like in heaven when Jesus comes again. He desires an intimate relationship, where we can communicate spirit to spirit.

We will know love beyond the human and physical restrictions of this world, a purity that cannot be duplicated by anyone else. We will have true communion with God and not one brokered by a human gateway, and we will see Jesus face to face.

The Devil

However, it is also important to note that Satan always attempts to replicate the actions of God. Therefore, he too will attempt to communicate and influence your spirit, mind, or heart. When this occurs, it is important to rebuke him, renounce any actions on your part and ask Jesus Christ to intervene.

Dreams from the devil are demonic, dark, and depressing.

These dreams cause you to feel unsettled. Your discerning will indicate that something is wrong, but you just cannot identify what it might be. In some cases, you might have sexual encounters, be led into threatening situations, or be coerced to come into agreement with seemingly safe or non-threatening people, situations, or things.

For example, I have had quite a few dreams in the past of people offering me cooked food. Though, I have learned that is not a good situation. This can be an attempt to get you into an agreement or evil covenant with the spirit of death and sickness (infirmity).

Activity:

To counter this, you must pray to break any evil covenants formed in your dream. Ask forgiveness for coming into agreement with them and ask God to cleanse you with the blood of Jesus Christ. Declare that Jesus is Lord over your life.

Additionally, to bolster your faith, you may pray over a cup of water, using the Psalms (3, 5, 23, 91, and 121) or others befitting the situation, and ask God to heal you of all poisons and toxins.

As a practice, be careful of accepting food from people. If you must, pray and ask God to sanctify your meal with the blood of Jesus Christ and preferably, prepare your meals. This is especially necessary if you are having many demonic dreams with people offering you food, leaving food for you to eat, or forcing you to eat.

Remember, demonic dreams are meant to induce fear, and worry. They are meant to mislead and cause you to waste time or be delayed and frustrated in your efforts. They are also meant to create separation from God.

If you accept them and do not rebuke these dreams, they will manifest in your physical life. Many times, in devasting ways.

Yourself, The Physical Man

Our life experiences may dictate what we see in our dreams. Similarly, if we have intense, or stressful experiences they might play out in our dreams. For example, for the first time, I dreamt I was having my cycle and I saw a red stain on my clothing.

Surely, within a few days, I did indeed have my cycle.

A woman who is with child or pregnant might also see this happen in their dream. Someone who is experiencing stress at work might have dreams about work as well.

Furthermore, the physical man might have dreams that are linked to the deep desires of our heart and soul. So, if you are having many sexual encounters or find yourself committing a particular sin in your dream, which you might have indulged in real life, then this is an area needing God’s intervention. If left unaddressed, it will become the devil’s playground and replicate abundantly in the physical.

Activity:

When you dream, always ask God to intervene. Ask for his will to be done. Rebuke any evil covenants, curses, or manifestations and declare the will of God to be made manifest in his time, in your life.

Be specific. Mention specific areas of your life, where applicable. For example, your marriage, your work, your friendships, your finances, your family, areas of sin, and addiction.

You will see the greatest impact when you identify, by name, the situation, person, sin, area of your life, or demonic entity disturbing your life. And remember, seal it in the name of Jesus Christ, who has given the power and authority to do so.

Continue to do so, until you are certain the ungodly dreams or visions have passed or are no longer manifesting in your spiritual or physical life.
