Week 1
Have you ever felt the physical compulsion to do something? Have you ever felt an overwhelming appetite or craving which cannot be satisfied? Well, day one was like being denied air; but I got through it. One of the most profound experiences that happened is that I kept on opening a new tab in my browser, but would catch myself before launching the Facebook website. I had turned off all notifications the night before to my email and my cell phone. Don’t forget, smart phones have social media apps like twitter and Facebook installed.
By day two, I was looking for other ways to fill my time and I listened to gospel music the entire day, to carry me through. There is nothing like some great music from Donnie McClurkin, Kevin Downswell and many other inspirational and worship Gospel artistes to alter the state of your mind; easing the stings of withdrawal. So for the first week, I was able to give God back his time and be in constant worship to Him.
God also placed this bible verse in my spirit. Matthew 6:33 (KJV), “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you”. I felt God changing my mindset, changing my focus and requiring my full attention on Him. Somewhere in myself, I realized Facebook would be only one of the first things I was going to be asked to sacrifice.
