The Power of Praise in Times of Ailment: Navigating Trials with Faith
By: Denise N. Fyffe.
Do you know when your praises and thanks mean so much more to God? When you are ailing or suffering.
The fact that even in the worst of times when you should be cursing; you do the thing that is not a human reflex action. It is these actions that indicate to God how you have grown and that you have passed his testing. For some it may take longer; for others, it may even get more unbearable.
However, pull, push, stand, fight, and resist the devil’s work on your mind. It does start and end in your mind. If necessary seek the prayers and comfort of your friends. This will be like an oasis in the desert. You may find like Job that your real friends are mirages and you can only rely on the source of help that comes from God; whether that be in a stranger, the bible, nature, or an act of kindness.
Hold on, someone is praying for you.
In the depths of adversity and suffering, our praises and thanks to God carry an even greater significance. When we find ourselves ailing or facing unbearable trials, it is during these very moments that our response to God’s testing reveals the depth of our faith and spiritual growth.
Let’s explore the transformative impact of praising God amidst afflictions, supported by powerful Bible verses that remind us of the strength and comfort found in turning to Him during trying times.
James 1:12 affirms:
“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”
Even when facing the worst of circumstances, our choice to praise and thank God demonstrates our unwavering trust in His sovereignty. It reflects a maturity in faith that surpasses human reflex actions, revealing our growth as followers of Christ.
In the face of suffering, we can choose to curse, but when we choose praise, we declare our reliance on God’s strength and grace.
During moments of distress, it is crucial to guard our minds against the schemes of the enemy.
Romans 12:2 encourages us to:
“not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of [our] mind. Then [we] will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Our battles often begin and end in our minds, and we must resist the lies and doubts that the enemy seeks to sow. Seeking the prayers and comfort of friends can be an oasis in the desert of affliction, but ultimately, our true source of help comes from God. Whether it be through the Scriptures, nature’s beauty, or a simple act of kindness, God’s presence and comfort are always available to those who seek Him.
In moments of despair, we find solace in knowing that someone is praying for us.
Hebrews 4:16 urges us to:
“approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
Our prayers and the intercession of others become a lifeline that strengthens our spirit and encourages us to hold on with hope. Just as Job discovered that his true friends were mirages, we learn to rely solely on the unfailing help that comes from God. In our darkest moments, our praises become a testimony of our unyielding faith, and our thankfulness magnifies His grace and love.
Conclusion
When we face ailments and suffering, our praises and thanks to God become a powerful declaration of our trust and reliance on Him. Even in the most challenging of circumstances, we have the choice to praise or to curse. By choosing to praise, we demonstrate the depth of our faith and spiritual growth.
Let us hold on with unwavering hope, knowing that God’s presence and comfort sustain us. Whether we find support in the prayers of others, the solace of Scripture, or acts of kindness, our praises amidst afflictions signify our perseverance and unwavering love for our Heavenly Father.
