Week 2
In the second week, things would not be so easy. My Uncle became seriously ill and one of the most efficient ways to inform my family members was through Facebook messaging; after all one message, one time, no fees and they all would get it. Big mistake! The lure of Facebook was overwhelming, especially since it was my birthday week and well wishes were piling up. A peek here, a peek there and I was almost lost. One friend even called me and lovingly told me to get off Facebook and go repent. Thank God for him. I find shame is an effective tool to make you redouble your efforts.
Even throughout my week two slips, I was still being fortified. I had started to listen to bible teachings by Chip Ingram. Living on the Edge exists to help Christians live like Christians. Founded by pastor and author Chip Ingram, the ministry provides Biblical teaching and practical tools that help believers live out their faith on a daily basis by fulfilling God’s calling on their life. The ministry of Living on the Edge is built on the core value that Romans 12 is the “start here” of true spirituality. Offering a Biblical profile of how to live as an authentic disciple of Jesus, this passage defines a clear target for what it means to live like a Romans 12 Christian.
His teachings, I have found, are life changing. They are an answer to my prayers of over a decade for bible teachings which were for mature Christians and which were applicable to every situation in everyday life. They are teachings filled with humor, love, understanding and tons of wisdom. Now, I was in the right place at the right time and in the right mindset to not only receive them but to implement the teachings.
In week two I began to write prayer letters to God and take a new approach towards having a constant and impactful devotional time every day. Everything was falling in line for me to “…seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you”. This practice I also learned from Chip Ingram.
So, in week two, instead of being lured into the mindlessness of Facebook surfing; I am now listening to bible teachings by Chip Ingram. You too can catch him on http://livingontheedge.org/ .
