Preachers of LA is churning along and with it a mix of controversy. Bishop Noel Jones, Minister Deitrick Haddon, Bishop Clarence McClendon, Pastor Jay Haizlip, Pastor Wayne Chaney, and Bishop Ron Gibson are the featured ministers of this show. Viewers were probably tipping over themselves with all the issues that came to light in Season 1, Episode 2 – Acceptance. Each bishop or pastor had their own pot to stir.
Pastor Jay Haizlip is considered to be one of the pioneering greats in the sport of skateboarding and has been consistent in the sport since he was 13 years of age. Pastor Jay Haizlip is very compassionate and extends this passion to young people and those in need. In today’s society one of the major issues facing the church and Christians is that of dealing with gay and transgender issues. This was no different for Lead Pastor of The Sanctuary World Outreach Inc.
Pastor Haizlip, though uncomfortable with the issue of one of his flock changing their sexual orientation, did not shun the young woman – a transgender former church member.. What he did was express that he was having some difficulty with the transition, but that regardless, this person would still get his love and support as a pastor. He invited the individual to come back and attend church and they would continue to pray and work together.
Bishop Ron Gibson and his wife, First Lady LaVette Gibson, decided that they would extend reach out to
Deitrick Haddon and his fiancée, Dominique, and provide some mentoring as it relates to marriage. They invited the young couple to dinner, to learn more about them and their situation. Deitrick divorced his first wife Damita Haddon, who is a vocalist. He has a daughter Destin Monet with Dominique Mctyre, the mother of his first child. This situation is why Bishop Gibson wants to help the young couple as they are of the opinion that nothing is wrong with them ‘shacking’ or living together before marriage.
Deitrick Haddon is a firecracker and initially he was very defensive with the old school stance of Bishop Gibson, as it relates to being a pastor and his past. Nonetheless, he was receptive to the idea or receiving help to make his second relationship and long-term one. First Lady LaVette Gibson tried to make it clear to the couple that it is not God‘s will, as Dominique Mctyre is of the opinion on the Preachers of LA that, “I love him! Who cares if I live with Deitrick Haddon?”. She also stated that “If he wasn’t who he was, nobody would care.”
If there was no other explosive issue on the Preachers of LA show, this stance was certainly it. The Church is all about living according to the principles/laws of God, set in His word, the Bible. The character and reputation of this young couple is scrutinized, because they want to ‘shack’.
We will definitely stay tuned for more episodes and see how the pastors deal with the issues that they face on a daily basis.
