About Depression

Depression is more common than many of us are aware; though, it is hidden away, like some deep dark secret. It is a natural response to trauma. For some, the emotions overwhelm them, and they commit suicide. Depression does not discriminate, stereotype or exercises any prejudice; neither is it unique to any one situation.

The stories of people who have committed suicide vary from broken relationships, abuse, betrayal, or death of a loved one. Because of this, there are millions of people worldwide who are suffering alone and in silence.

About Suicide

Suicide often occurs because someone feels trapped in a world of constant despair. Their outlook is very dreary. Suicidal tendencies are often triggered by stress, trauma, bullying, unemployment, relationship issues, gambling problems, chemical imbalance, grief, and other factors. Many of the persons who take their lives are considered suffers of a mental disorder; including, but not limited to schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, depression, bipolar disorder, alcoholism, or drug abuse.

Those who choose to take their life, find various tools, weapons, or places to help them accomplish this. Some of the more popular options include pesticide poisoning, hanging, cutting of the wrists and firearms. Having a firearm in the home, increases the likelihood of it being the weapon of choice in a suicide. Sadly, men are more likely to commit suicide than females.

In analyzing the world statistics, it is noted that more than 800,000 people committed suicide in 2013. However, alarmingly, there are upwards of 20 million suicide attempts each year. It is important to note that suicide does not discriminate and is inclusive of all races, ethnicity, age, gender, and sex.

Dealing With Life’s Hardships

The hardships of life can rip you up, turn you over and leave you feeling like you have been inside a tornado. Breakups, loss of a job, the death of a loved one, personal injury and even betrayal by those closest to you can leave you without a leg to stand on. These experiences can make you feel isolated or depressed. They are not isolated to any one person, because we all have a time or a season when we go through difficulties, or experience trials and tribulations. However, in these times faith, hope, motivation, and self-belief can be the anchor you need to overcome.

God is and has the answers to all things. In times of trouble and despair, He will never leave us nor forsake us. His words are lifeblood to the spirit. Before you start going through this book, it is essential that you prepare your spirit.

The beginning of the end, the key to breaking off the old shackles and setting a proper foundation for your mind, starts with you. As such, you need to yield to God. Below, I have provided a prayer to help you submit to the will of God. Pray, meditate on His words, be humble and truly repentant. Then begin your life anew with purpose and focus.

PRAYER

Lord, I submit my mind, my body, my spirit, my soul, and everything that I am to the will of the Holy Spirit. Heavenly Father, I give over my will freely to you, for the accomplishment of your purpose and so that your will can be done on the earth.

Lord, I am guilty. I have sinned and come short of the glory of God. I am not worthy of your mercy. But thank you for the sacrifice and shed blood of Jesus Christ who has redeemed my sins.

I bow to you Great Eternal King and Lord and I humbly come into your presence. Everything that I am or ever hope to be is in you. Lord, you are the Faithful God whom I will serve forever.

I pledge to obey your perfect will. I pledge to yield to your call. Help me to be obedient and allow your will to work in my life and the life of my family and children.

Come now, Lord. Let thy will be done and your power and your glory reign forevermore. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray, amen.
