We can find a powerful reminder of God’s righteous judgment and our need to take refuge in Him, Psalms 7. This psalm speaks to the challenges and injustices we may face, encouraging us to trust in God’s divine protection and seek His righteous intervention.

Let us delve into the transformative message of seeking God’s shelter and relying on His judgment in times of adversity.

Verse 1

“O Lord my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me.”

The psalmist begins with a declaration of trust in God as their refuge. They implore God to save them from their persecutors and deliver them from harm. This verse reminds us to place our unwavering trust in God, seeking His salvation and deliverance in times of trouble.

Verse 6

“Arise, O Lord, in thine anger, lift up thyself because of the rage of mine enemies: and awake for me to the judgment that thou hast commanded.”

In the face of opposition, the psalmist calls upon God to rise up in His righteous anger against their enemies. They seek God’s intervention and ask Him to execute the judgment He has decreed. This verse encourages us to seek God’s justice and rely on His divine judgment, knowing that He will act on our behalf.

Verse 10

“My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart.”

The psalmist affirms that their defense lies in God, who saves those with upright hearts. They acknowledge God as their protector and trust in His ability to shield them from harm. This verse reminds us to rely on God’s protection and to cultivate a heart that is upright and aligned with His will.

Verse 14

“Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.”

The psalmist describes the wickedness of their adversaries, recognizing their evil intentions and deceitful actions. This verse serves as a reminder that God sees and understands the true nature of those who commit injustice. We are encouraged to trust in God’s omniscience, knowing that He will bring to light the falsehoods and machinations of the wicked.

Verse 17

“I will praise the Lord according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high.”

In a moment of gratitude and praise, the psalmist declares their intention to praise the Lord according to His righteousness. They express their desire to exalt the name of the Most High. This verse inspires us to offer praise and thanksgiving to God for His righteous judgment and His unwavering faithfulness.

Bible Reading

Psalms 7 (KJV)

O Lord my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me:

2 Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

3 O Lord my God, If I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands;

4 If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:)

5 Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honor in the dust. Selah.

6 Arise, O Lord, in thine anger, lift up thyself because of the rage of mine enemies: and awake for me to the judgment that thou hast commanded.

7 So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about: for their sakes, therefore, return thou on high.

8 The Lord shall judge the people: judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity that is in me.

9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.

10 My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart.

11 God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.

12 If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready.

13 He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors.

14 Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.

15 He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made.

16 His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.

17 I will praise the Lord according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high.

Conclusion

Psalms 7, in the King James Version, reminds us to take refuge in God’s righteous judgment and trust in His divine protection. It encourages us to place our trust in Him, seeking His deliverance from those who persecute us.

As we rely on God’s defense, we can have confidence that He will execute justice and bring forth truth. Let us praise and exalt the name of the Lord, trusting in His righteousness and seeking refuge in His unwavering love. In God, we find shelter and security in the face of adversity.
