The Christian Life: The Gift of Sight
By: Denise N. Fyffe
It’s amazing when with sight, you look at things, people, and situations and see and hear God; He is showing you the true intent. Then you must decide, for he gives you the choice of heeding his direction or making another mistake.
What decision do you always make? Do you choose what is hard and difficult? Or do you take the easy way out? Do you pleasure the flesh? Or do you measure and enact your faith?
What do you usually do?
In the realm of faith, we are presented with moments where we can discern God’s hand at work in the world around us. As we open our eyes and ears to His guidance, we gain insight into the true intent of things, people, and situations. God graciously allows us to see beyond the surface, offering us a choice: to heed His divine direction or to succumb to the allure of making another mistake.
In these critical moments of decision, we are faced with questions that reveal our heart’s desires and priorities. Do we choose the path that is hard and difficult, knowing it aligns with God’s will? Or do we opt for the easy way out, which may lead us away from His purpose for our lives? Are we driven by the temporary pleasures of the flesh, or do we intentionally measure our actions against the yardstick of our faith?
“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.” – Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (ESV)
In Deuteronomy, God sets before His people the choice between life and death, blessing and curse. He urges them to choose life, a life lived in love and obedience to Him.
This verse echoes through the ages, reminding us that our decisions have consequences. When we opt for the path of faithfulness and obedience, we find life and blessings that come from God alone.
So, what do we usually do? It is essential to reflect on our patterns and habits, recognizing whether we consistently choose God’s way or stray from it. Amid the allure of fleeting pleasures and the pressure to take the easy route, let us remember that God’s path is the path of life.
As we measure our actions against the depth of our faith and choose to heed His direction, we embark on a journey of purpose and fulfillment. By choosing to align our lives with God’s will, we experience the abundant life He promises, dwelling in the richness of His presence and blessings.
