Covenant Prayer by John Wesley
I am no longer my own, but yours.
Put me to what you will, place me with whom you will.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be put to work for you or set aside for you,
Praised for you or criticized for you.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and fully surrender all things to your glory and service.
And now, O wonderful and holy God,
Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer,
you are mine, and I am yours.
So be it.
And the covenant which I have made on earth,
Let it also be made in heaven. Amen.
Covenant prayer is a form of prayer that expresses our commitment to God and His will for our lives. It is based on the covenant service that John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, introduced in 1755. The covenant service was a renewal of the baptismal vows and a reaffirmation of the relationship between God and His people.
The covenant prayer is not a one-time prayer, but a way of living in constant surrender and obedience to God. It is a prayer that acknowledges our dependence on God and our willingness to follow Him wherever He leads us. It is a prayer that challenges us to examine our hearts and motives, and to align them with God’s purposes.
The covenant prayer is not a prayer for the faint-hearted, but for those who desire to grow in grace and holiness. It is a prayer that invites us to experience the joy and peace that come from trusting God fully. It is a prayer that empowers us to serve God and others with love and compassion.
The covenant prayer is not a prayer that we say once and forget, but a prayer that we live out every day. It is a prayer that shapes our identity and destiny as God’s children. It is a prayer that transforms us into the image of Christ.
The covenant prayer is a beautiful and powerful way of expressing our faith and devotion to God. It is a prayer that can change our lives and the world around us. It is a prayer that we can pray with confidence and hope, knowing that God is faithful and true to His promises.
