Testimony Thursday: Celebrating a New Chapter, A Year of Victory
By: Colline Goulbourne, Evangelizing Servant of God

I want to share a personal testimony with you because I know others have the same struggles and experience the same hurt from a broken or abusive marriage. If this encourages anyone who is in a similar situation, then all glory belongs to God.
My Testimony
These days, I am wrestling with a difficult situation. My husband decided to get remarried, though I am still waiting for the divorce papers to sign. He is overseas and I am back home in Jamaica, wondering what is going on. It may sound unbelievable, but I must admit, he has been quite selfish with the process.
Mr. Rev. Gooden preaches about love and how to treat others, but his life does not depict what he preaches. He holds a grudge and refuses to communicate with his wife and the mother of his daughter. This has been a hurtful and disheartening experience.
You see when you get married, sometimes we think that nothing will go wrong and we will meet the storms together. But what do you do when your partner is the storm and your life is a hurricane? Well, I choose to hold on to Christ.
Isaiah 40:31 (NIV) – “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
I tried to extend an olive branch by sending him pictures of our daughter’s excellence award, but he didn’t even congratulate her. Though, he called her to ask her to be a flower girl at his wedding. God have mercy on us!
Understandably, this left my daughter with numerous unanswerable questions that I struggled to answer. I pray to God and ask for answers.
The hardest part is that I wish he could be more respectful and explain the situation to her so she wouldn’t be left confused and seeking answers. She asks me, “Mommy, how can he be getting married when you and he are already married?”
Surely, God is a good God, and I am placing my trust in Him to guide us through this situation. I have no answers and am left in uncertainty. Now, as a mother, I am hurting not only for me but also for my daughter and what she has to endure at a young age.
A Year of Freedom and Liberty
On New Year’s Day, I boldly declared to my neighbors and friends that this year would be a year of freedom and liberty. Remarkably, it seems that God is already fulfilling His promise. Thank you, Jesus! This year is marked by victory, and God has assured me that it will be a season of triumph.
I want to encourage you.
As we navigate through this challenging time, I am holding onto my faith and trust in God. You should too. I believe that He has great plans in store for me and my daughter. Despite the uncertainties and difficulties, I remain confident that this will be a year of breakthrough and liberation.
Bible Verses:
- Isaiah 41:10 (NIV) – “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
- Psalm 27:1 (NIV) – “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?”
- Psalm 119:114 (NIV) – “You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.”
- Romans 8:28 (NIV) – “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Let these verses provide strength and encouragement as you navigate through this challenging time. God is with you, and He will guide you to victory and freedom. Trust in His promises, and embrace the triumph that awaits you. Be blessed and hold onto God’s goodness!
Conclusion: Holding onto God’s Promises
In the midst of the ups and downs, I choose to celebrate the new chapter my husband is embarking on, even if it has its challenges. I believe that God is working behind the scenes, bringing freedom and victory into our lives.
As I place my trust in Him, I am confident that this year will unfold with His divine plan for me and my daughter. I choose to believe in God’s goodness, and I am ready to embrace the liberty and triumph He has promised.

Meditate on God’s Word
Many Christians struggle daily to live according to God’s word. But we need daily nourishment. That is why it is important to read your bible daily; even if it is a few verses and meditate on them.
