Sunday Sermon: Embracing the Trials and Revealing the True Christian Journey
by Minister Denise N. Fyffe
Greetings, my beloved family in Christ. Today, I stand before you to share a personal testament of a life dedicated to our Savior from a very tender age. My journey began at twelve years old, when I first answered the call to walk in the light of God’s truth. Being a Christian—a true believer in the Almighty—is an undertaking that demands not just belief, but a daily, deep-seated immersion in the divine presence of our Lord.
The Challenge of Righteous Living
In a world that often seems to drift further from the foundational truths we cherish, maintaining a righteous lifestyle is no easy task. It demands more than just passive belief or routine religious practices; it requires a vibrant, ongoing relationship with God.
Without this relationship, we risk being swept away by the empty promises and flashy allure of secular life.
Personal Struggles and Divine Favor
I have often been reminded of Job, who endured soul-breaking tribulations because he was highly favored by God. Like Job, the devil has singled me out for special attention, for perpetual torment, yet also for divine favor. There are days when my spirit has wallowed in despair from over two decades of trials.
Despite this, I recognize these trials as part of my spiritual shaping, breaking away the rebellious pieces of my nature to mold me into a vessel fit for His glorious purpose.
The Journey of Spiritual Awareness
From the moment I was saved, my life changed irrevocably. I became acutely aware of the spiritual realm—a tug of war for my soul. I realized that many of my decisions had been wrong, guided by a sinful nature and a quick temper. Yet, God in His mercy heightened my conscience, granting me the clarity to see my faults and the strength to overcome them.
In my walk with God, I have not had the usual guidance from mentors or leaders. Instead, God Himself has been my direct guide, a reality both daunting and humbling. Imagine being told on your first day of a new job that you would work closely with the CEO, under their direct supervision. That has been my experience with God—intense, direct, and transformative.
Lessons from the Battlefield
The battles have been fierce, and through them, I have learned invaluable lessons. Lessons about the importance of wearing the full armor of God, about the cunning tricks of the enemy, and about the power of steadfast faith.
These trials have taught me that challenges often repeat until we learn what God is teaching us through them.
Conclusion
As I share my journey with you today, it is not to boast of my struggles, but to offer up my life as a testament to God’s sustaining power and unending love. Each trial, each moment of despair, has been a stepping stone to a deeper faith and a stronger relationship with Christ.
So, if you are finding your Christian walk unchallenged, perhaps it’s time to deepen your engagement with God.
Seek Him more earnestly.
Immerse yourself in His Word.
Embrace the trials, for they are God’s way of drawing you closer to Him. And remember, no matter how fierce the battle, you are never fighting alone.
Let us all recommit ourselves today to this challenging but immeasurably rewarding journey. Let us walk boldly and confidently in the knowledge that with God, all things are possible. Come, let us move forward together, with our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Amen.
I hope you find today’s sermon helpful and applicable to your life. I pray that the Word of God works effectively in your life.
Be encouraged and stay blessed.
