Sunday Sermon: Live as a Witness for Christ
by Minister Denise N. Fyffe
The theme of my life is simple yet profound: I am a blessed, and highly favored child of God. Every morning, I am reminded of God’s blessings in my life. Some days are more profound than others. Whether it’s a stranger I meet on the street or a chance encounter with someone I’ve never known before, the Spirit of God within me seems to attract others. Oftentimes, people will tell me they feel as though they know me or instantly like me. In response, I simply tell them, “You are attracted by the Spirit of God, and I am a child of God.” Glory to God.
This statement often stops any untoward advances and opens the door for genuine, meaningful interactions. It’s in these moments that I find an opportunity to witness for Jesus Christ. I can speak about His saving grace, His love, and how He’s working in my life. You don’t have to be a preacher or an evangelist standing on the streets with a microphone to witness for Christ. How we live our lives, how we interact with others, and how we embody Christ’s love can be one of the most effective ways to share the Gospel.
The Everyday Evangelist
If you’re like me, you may not feel called to be a traditional preacher or an evangelist on a bus. However, this doesn’t mean you’re exempt from sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. You can still witness to those you encounter daily—whether they’re people you know or complete strangers—by living a life of humility and grace.
1 Peter 3:15 (KJV) says, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” This verse reminds us that every moment of our day can be an opportunity to share our faith. We should always be ready, prepared to answer when someone asks why we are different, why we have peace, or why we are filled with hope.
One of the simplest ways to begin your day is by waking up with a song of praise in your heart. Ask God, “What can I do today to serve You?” When you ask this with a genuine heart, God will use you. Maybe He’ll lead you to encourage a coworker who is going through a tough time. Maybe you’ll feel led to say a kind word to a homeless person or someone cleaning your car windshield. God can use you in ways you never expect, and it’s these small moments of kindness that can leave a lasting impact on someone’s life.
Being Ready, Willing, and Available
Here’s the key: You must be ready, willing, and available. Many of us are ready to serve God, but we aren’t always willing or available. Some are willing, but they’re not ready—not prepared to step out in faith when God opens a door. And others are available, but they aren’t willing—they hold back for fear of being uncomfortable or stepping out of their comfort zones.
But God sees the heart. Jeremiah 17:10 (KJV) reminds us, “I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.” He knows if we are genuine or if we’re just putting on a show. God uses both clean and unclean vessels to fulfill His purpose, but it’s always better to be the clean vessel, ready and willing to be used by Him.
Think of this: When we witness for Christ, we’re not just speaking with words; we’re living out the Gospel with our actions. The people you interact with daily are watching how you live. They see how you respond to difficulties, how you treat others, and how you carry yourself. This is why it’s so important to live according to God’s precepts, to remain genuine in your worship, and to have your life aligned with the will of God.
Living in Truth and Genuine Worship
John 4:24 (KJV) says, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” This verse teaches us that God desires truthful worship, not just empty rituals, or a facade of faith. He wants us to live in a way that reflects His love, His mercy, and His righteousness. Our lifestyle should be our most effective tool for evangelism. As you live out the truth of God’s Word, people will see a difference in you, and they will want to know the source of your peace, joy, and love.
It’s easy to get caught up in the motions of life, but God calls us to something greater—to a life that reflects His heart. Whether we are interacting with strangers on the street, in our workplaces, or even in our homes, our lives should be a testimony of who God is.
Conclusion
If you take anything away from this today, let it be this: Be ready, be willing, and be available for God to use you. You don’t have to stand on a stage or shout from a pulpit to witness for Christ. Your life—how you treat others, how you respond to difficulties, how you speak, and how you serve—can be a powerful witness for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Today, ask God to show you how you can be a vessel of His love. Whether it’s through a kind word, a compassionate act, or simply living a life that reflects His goodness, you can make an impact. Romans 12:1 (KJV) reminds us, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Let your life be a living sacrifice, a testimony of God’s love and grace.
I encourage you to take a moment to ask God how you can serve Him. Be genuine, live according to His precepts, and be ready for those divine moments when God will use you to witness to someone. Witnessing doesn’t always require words—your actions can speak louder than anything you could ever say. Go out today and share the gift of Christ’s love with someone.
Closing Prayer
Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your love, for Your grace, and for the opportunities You give us to share Your Gospel with others. Lord, help us to live lives that reflect You, to be ready, willing, and available to be used by You. Teach us to witness with our words, our actions, and our lives. Fill us with Your Spirit, that others may be drawn to You through the love we show. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Blessing
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May He guide your steps and open doors for you to share His love with others. May your life be a beacon of hope, joy, and peace, drawing others closer to Him. Be blessed and go forth in the strength of the Lord. Amen..
