Dreams and Visions: 6 Warning Dreams and Visions in the Bible
By: Minister Denise N. Fyffe
Welcome Dreamer, warning dreams in the Bible often serve as divine interventions—urgent messages meant to protect individuals or redirect their paths. These dreams can come to both believers and non-believers, emphasizing that God’s guidance isn’t limited by status or circumstance.
Whether it’s a king being cautioned, a prophet receiving direction, or a parent being told to flee danger, these dreams reveal God’s desire to shield His people from harm and fulfill His greater purposes.
Here are six notable warning dreams in Scripture:
- Abimelech’s Dream – in Genesis 20
God warns King Abimelech not to touch Sarah, Abraham’s wife, or face death. - Laban’s Dream – in Genesis 31
God tells Laban in a dream not to harm Jacob as he pursues him. - Pharaoh’s Dreams – in Genesis 41
Though symbolic, these dreams warn of an impending famine. Joseph interprets them, leading to national preparation. - Midianite’s Dream – in Judges 7
A Midianite soldier dreams of defeat, which Gideon interprets as a divine sign of Israel’s coming victory. - Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream – in Daniel 4
The Babylonian king dreams of a great tree being cut down—a warning of his coming humiliation due to pride. - Joseph’s Dream (New Testament) – in Matthew 2
An angel warns Joseph in a dream to flee to Egypt with Mary and Jesus to escape Herod’s wrath.
