Sunday Sermon: The Transformative Power of the Word of God

by Minister Denise N. Fyffe

“I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” John 6:35 (NKJV).

Bless the Lord forever for He is worthy to be praised.

Beloved in Christ, as we gather today, let us delve into the inexhaustible depths of God’s Word. The word of God has many meanings, resonating uniquely with everyone. For me, it stands as a timeless beacon, as relevant today as its inception. The Bible, a profound and endless source, is like an unexplored ocean, its depths beyond measure.

To me, the Bible is more than a book; it’s nourishment for the hungry soul and quenching water for the spiritually thirsty. In times of grief, it provides comfort, and for the lost, it becomes a guiding home.

Transformative Power

The transformative power of the Word of God is awe-inspiring, turning the wise into fools and fools into the wise. When questions seem insurmountable, the Bible unravels mysteries, unveiling answers that elude worldly understanding.

Having walked this faith journey for three decades, the word of God has been my anchor. In moments of uncertainty, it’s been a source of answers when nothing and no one else could suffice. Even in spiritual battles, its promises stand firm—no weapon formed against me shall prosper.

In adversity, the Bible is my foundation of trust. It reassures me that God sees all, encouraging me to lean not on my understanding but to trust in Him.

Identity and Purpose

The words in Jeremiah echo in my moments of solitude and questioning. They remind me that God knew me before I existed, shaping a purpose that extends beyond my understanding.

Reflecting on a recent spiritual hunger, I decided to infuse my daily routine with the word of God. Commuting became a time for listening and meditating on the book of Jeremiah, guided by the Holy Spirit. In those days, something shifted within me—repentance took root, and my focus on God deepened.

The Danger of Distractions

It became clear that some of my relaxation pursuits had unwittingly become distractions. In the midst of daily life, activities like music, movies, and social media took up more space than they should. A call to give a tenth of my time to God and His work resonated.

I’m thankful for the Holy Spirit, fostering reflection and keeping me from stubbornness. Listening to Jeremiah and Lamentations stirred a deep fear of God within me, revealing how I’d taken His love for granted.

A Call to Action

Engaged in ministry, I realize the work is never done. Hearts still break, and people remain in pain. The call to serve and share the hope found in Jesus Christ endures. My encouragement to others echoes my own journey—immerse yourself in the word of God, especially during daily commutes.

Replace non-edifying content with scripture; let God’s word become a guiding force.

I pray that others, like me, find solace, conviction, hope, and peace in the word of God. Amid life’s uncertainties, may the unchanging nature of God be a constant anchor.

The Invitation

I invite you today to take a deep look and reflect on your life. Is God calling you to be baptized and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? Have you been ignoring him? Have you been facing immense hardships and challenges? What can you do to take the first step and trust that he will help you to take the next step?

Be encouraged.

Be bold. Answer the Call.

In Jesus mighty name, Amen.
