Sunday Sermon: Accusation & How to Silence the Voice of Shame and Condemnation
by Minister Denise N. Fyffe
The enemy’s favorite strategy is Accusation. Every believer has faced it — that nagging voice that reminds you of your mistakes, your shameful past, your failures, your weaknesses. It whispers, “You’re not good enough,” “You’re a hypocrite,” “God can’t use someone like you.” That voice is not the Holy Spirit; it is the accuser of the brethren, Satan himself.
Scripture Readings:
Revelation 12:10 (NKJV)
“Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, ‘Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God, day and night, has been cast down.’”
The answer is in Romans 8:1 (NKJV):
“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.”
From the Garden of Eden to the courts of heaven in Job’s day, Satan has made it his business to accuse God’s people — not only before the throne, but also in their hearts. The enemy knows that if he can paralyze your present by replaying your past, he can delay or even derail your future.
But today, we’re going to learn how to silence the accuser — not by our good works, not by self-justification, but by the blood of the Lamb and the righteousness of Christ.
Point 1: The Devil Accuses to Paralyze and Shame
The enemy uses accusation to make you feel unworthy to pray, to worship, to lead, to serve, or even to believe that God loves you. He weaponizes your past against your purpose.
- Shame says: “You are your mistake.”
- Condemnation says: “You are guilty and deserve punishment.”
- Accusation says: “God will never forgive or use someone like you.”
But this is a lie. The truth is:
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” — 1 John 1:9, NKJV
Even when your heart condemns you, God is greater than your heart (1 John 3:20).
Point 2: The Blood of Jesus — Heaven’s Answer to Accusation
Revelation 12:11 declares:
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony…”
The blood of Jesus doesn’t just cover sin — it washes it away! When Satan reminds you of your past, remind him of his future.
When he tries to replay old sins, respond with the Word:
“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” — Psalm 103:12, NKJV
Point 3: No Condemnation for the Righteous in Christ
Romans 8:1 is a divine declaration — a spiritual “not guilty” verdict from the highest court in heaven:
“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus…”
This is not based on your feelings. It’s based on your position — in Christ. How do we walk free from condemnation?
-
Agree with God’s Word — Don’t let your opinion override Scripture.
-
Confess and Repent Quickly — Don’t let sin linger. Keep short accounts with God.
-
Stand Righteous in Christ — You are not righteous because of your behavior; you are righteous because of your belief in Christ.
Stand in the Mirror of the Word
If you’ve been walking around with a spiritual weight — guilt, shame, self-hatred — lay it down today. Start each morning reminding yourself:
“I am the righteousness of God in Christ.” — 2 Corinthians 5:21
Say these affirmations:
- I am forgiven.
- I am cleansed.
- I am redeemed.
- I am loved.
- I am free from condemnation.
Conclusion
So, silence the accuser. Let us no longer agree with the enemy by meditating on guilt. Instead, agree with the Word. Yes, you’ve made mistakes — but you are not your past. Yes, you’ve sinned — but you are now justified. Yes, you were broken — but now you are healed, whole, and restored in Christ.
Let the accuser shout all he wants — but you answer back with the truth of God’s Word.
“Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.” — John 8:36, NKJV
This week, whenever you feel the pangs of guilt or hear whispers of shame, speak the Word. Write down Romans 8:1 and declare it aloud every morning. Tell yourself: “There is no condemnation in Christ. I am free.”
Take back your peace. Reclaim your authority. Silence the accuser — with the blood of Jesus and the Word of God.
I hope you find today’s sermon helpful and applicable to your life. I pray that the Word of God works effectively in your life.
