The Christian Life with Colline: Be Careful of the Idols in Your Life
By: Colline Goulbourne, Evangelizing Servant of God
God is speaking clearly: anything we put before Him becomes an idol. It may not be a statue or a shrine—idols today often come in more subtle, everyday forms. Your phone, devices, car, house, or even clothes can become idols. Even people—your spouse, your children, a pastor, or a public figure—can take God’s place in your heart if you exalt them above Him.
“You shall have no other gods before Me.” — Exodus 20:3 (NKJV)
We must be vigilant not to let anything, or anyone occupy the space that belongs to God alone. Praise belongs to Him—not to our possessions, accomplishments, or relationships. He is a jealous God (Exodus 34:14), and He desires to be first in our lives.
A Prayer of Surrender
Dear Lord,
We come to You acknowledging that You alone are God. We confess that we are nothing without You. You are our Savior, our Redeemer, our King. We glorify You and lift up Your name on high. Help us, Father, to put You first at all times. Remove anything in our lives that is serving as a distraction or drawing our worship away from You.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” — Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)
We surrender our hearts and minds to You. Cleanse us from idols, whether visible or hidden. We live to please You, Lord, and we know that no idol can give us what You alone provide. Not healing, not strength, not peace—only You. Read Only God Can Do It for a related reflection on trusting God as the true source.
Our True Source
Father, for every person reading this prayer, touch them like never before. Draw them to know You personally and intimately. Remind them that they can’t fix their problems alone. Only You can bring healing, deliverance, comfort, peace, joy, and most importantly—salvation.
“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” — Acts 4:12 (NKJV)
Let them feel Your presence, Holy Spirit. Convict our hearts of anything we’ve elevated above You. Remind us daily that idols can’t save our souls. Help us stay in Your Word and be guided by Your Spirit.
Endurance Through the Process
Father, we commit ourselves to You—mind, body, and spirit. We feed on Your Word because it is food for our soul. We declare that You are our strength, even in our weakness.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV)
You promised You would never leave us nor forsake us, and we hold on to that truth. We choose to endure through our trials and allow You to manifest Your plans in our lives. Let Your strength carry us when we have none left. Let Your joy be our strength.
Faith to Move Mountains
We surrender all to You, Lord—with faith, commitment, and perseverance. We believe in Your promises, even when we can’t see the outcome.
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” — Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV)
“By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” — Hebrews 11:3 (NKJV)
When our faith is activated, we know You will move mountains. You will do what seems impossible. We believe in miracles, breakthroughs, and divine intervention.
Use Us for Your Glory
Lord, pour out a fresh anointing on us. Mold us in Your image. Help us to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh, to move with humility, forgiveness, and love. Give us the boldness to carry out every assignment You’ve given us.
Help us to endure, to press forward even when we feel weary. Let Your fire surround us, and Your blood cover us. Use us as willing vessels. We go forward in Your character, not our own. Lead us, and we will follow. Let Your will be done, for Your glory.
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” — 2 Corinthians 4:7 (NKJV)
We are overcomers, Lord. You are faithful. You are able. You are worthy.
Final Amen
We thank You for the plans You are fulfilling in and through us. We surrender it all—our desires, our fears, our timelines. Let Your power and presence take full control. And we give You all the praise, honor, and glory—in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
Be blessed!
Meditate on God’s Word
Many Christians struggle daily to live according to God’s word. But we need daily nourishment. That is why it is important to read your bible daily; even if it is a few verses and meditate on them.
