The Christian Life with Colline: No One Is Perfect – But We Can Grow in God’s Perfection (Part 1)

By: Colline Goulbourne, Evangelizing Servant of God

No one is perfect. But we all have the opportunity to grow in God’s perfection—if we choose to walk His path. It begins with a decision. A decision to follow Christ. A decision to turn from sin. A decision to pursue a life that is pleasing to Almighty God.

“Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.” — Matthew 5:48 NKJV

Yes, perfection in our human effort is impossible. But through God’s help, we grow day by day into His likeness. We move from glory to glory. We become more like Jesus as we surrender daily and walk in obedience.

Righteousness Is a Choice

Living righteously doesn’t happen by accident. It’s a conscious choice. Every day we must decide whether we will walk in the Spirit or the flesh, in righteousness or rebellion.

“I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore, choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”— Deuteronomy 30:19 NKJV

You can choose a lifestyle that reflects God’s values and character—or remain in a path that leads to destruction. Yes, we are all born in sin, but Jesus died for those sins. That sacrifice gives us hope.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”— Romans 3:23 NKJV

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”— Romans 5:8 NKJV

Biblical Examples of God’s Grace

A friend recently sent me a video of a preacher highlighting people in the Bible like David, Paul, and Solomon—all of whom made serious mistakes.

  • David committed adultery and murder
  • Paul persecuted Christians
  • Solomon fell into idolatry despite great wisdom

Yet, despite their sins, God used them mightily. Why? Because they repented, turned back to God, and allowed Him to rewrite their story.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.” — Psalm 51:10 NKJV (David’s prayer of repentance)

God is not looking for perfection—He’s looking for repentance, surrender, and a heart willing to change.

Sin Is Not an Excuse

Too often, people say, “Well, no one is perfect,” and use that as an excuse to continue living in sin. That’s a lie from the enemy. Satan wants you to believe you can’t change. He wants to keep you bound in shame, secretly destroying your destiny.

But the truth is: we know right from wrong. We know the difference between light and darkness. And we can make a choice to turn around.

“Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.”— Acts 3:19 NKJV

“Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”— James 4:7 NKJV

It Starts with a Decision

You don’t have to clean yourself up before you come to God. You simply have to make the decision to come. Once you choose Him, He will help you do the rest. He will give you the strength, the grace, and the wisdom to leave sin behind and live for Him.

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”— Matthew 11:28 NKJV

Let this be your encouragement today: You may not be perfect, but God is not finished with you yet. The process of transformation starts with your yes. Continue with Part 2 on choosing righteousness.

Be blessed!

Meditate on God’s Word

Many Christians struggle daily to live according to God’s word. But we need daily nourishment. That is why it is important to read your bible daily; even if it is a few verses and meditate on them.
