A Prayer for Jamaica After Hurricane Melissa, For Resources to Flow—From the Nations and from Heaven

By: Minister Denise N. Fyffe

Revealing The Christian Life banner 1

Since the storm, Hurricane Melissa, there is one prayer and focus we should have for recovery, “Open the gates.” Not just the airport gates or the port gates, but the gates of provision, mercy, and help—from parish to parish, and from the nations to Jamaica.

Tonight, we’re going to ask our Father to swing wide every door for resources—material and spiritual—to flow. The earth is the Lord’s (Psalm 24:1, NKJV), the silver is His and the gold is His (Haggai 2:8, NKJV), and He delights to supply “all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19, NKJV). Let’s pray.

Prayer for Resources to Flow—From the Nations and from Heaven

Abba Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, we come boldly to the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). You are Jehovah Jireh, our Provider. You own the cattle on a thousand hills, and the hidden treasures in secret places belong to You (Psalm 50:10; Isaiah 45:3, NKJV). We lift Jamaica before You and we declare over this land: “Open the gates, that the righteous nation which keeps the truth may enter in” (Isaiah 26:2, NKJV). Open the gates for help, supply, and strength.

Father, command a global outpouring. Stir hearts across the Caribbean, the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. Speak to governments, NGOs, companies, churches, alumni associations, and ordinary families. Let compassion move them, wisdom guide them, and generosity overflow.

For it is written, “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over” (Luke 6:38, NKJV). Let help run over toward Jamaica.

We pray for swift logistics and clean hands. Clear bottlenecks at ports, airports, warehouses, and road corridors. Give our customs officers and handlers discernment and integrity. Keep the chain of custody honest from donation to distribution. “Providing honorable things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men” (2 Corinthians 8:21, NKJV). We rebuke graft, diversion, and waste. Make our scales honest (Proverbs 11:1, NKJV). Let aid reach the lane, the hill, the district, on time.

Multiply the little we have. Lord Jesus, You took five loaves and two fish and fed thousands, with baskets left over (Mark 6:41–44, NKJV). Do it again in our kitchens, shelters, and canteens. Stretch fuel, stretch food, stretch medicines. As with the widow’s oil, “the oil stopped” only when there were no more vessels (2 Kings 4:6, NKJV). Give us many vessels—refrigeration, storage, drivers, and volunteers—to hold the blessing You pour.

Release strategic supply. We ask specifically for roofing materials, lumber, water purification units, generators, transformers, medical consumables, chronic meds, dialysis support, fuel, heavy equipment, seeds, and farm inputs. Send engineers, electricians, masons, nurses, trauma counselors, and social workers. Let skilled hands find their assignment quickly. “Establish the work of our hands for us” (Psalm 90:17, NKJV).

Awaken the diaspora. Holy Spirit, tap the shoulders of Jamaicans abroad—professionals, church families, business owners, students. Let compassion and memory rise. Let remittances, barrels, and bank wires flow. Give wisdom to send what is needed, not merely what is spare (Proverbs 3:27, NKJV). Knit diaspora efforts with local churches and councils so help arrives usefully and safely.

Bless righteous partners and confound the adversary. Guide us to trustworthy agencies and shield us from predatory actors. Raise Daniels in the ministries—excellent in spirit and unbribable (Daniel 6:3–4, NKJV). Plant Nehemiahs on worksites—praying, planning, building with a trowel in one hand and a trumpet in the other (Nehemiah 4:17–20, NKJV). Let every scheme of confusion fall to the ground (Isaiah 54:17, NKJV).

Open financial fountains. Father, “the silver is Yours and the gold is Yours” (Haggai 2:8, NKJV). Unlock grants, concessional loans with humane terms, and private gifts. Give our leaders favor and clarity in negotiations. Protect our currency; stabilize prices; shield the poor from crushing costs. Cause policies like Joseph’s to preserve life in lean years (Genesis 41; 50:20, NKJV).

Now, Lord, send spiritual resources in power.

  • Send angels as ministering spirits to those who will inherit salvation (Hebrews 1:14, NKJV)—to protect convoys, calm shelters, and guard distribution points.

  • Pour out gifts of the Spirit—wisdom, knowledge, faith, healings, miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, tongues and interpretation (1 Corinthians 12:7–11, NKJV)—so that both help and holiness flow together.

  • Anoint intercessors in every parish; birth 24–7 prayer chains that lift up the weary (Isaiah 62:6–7, NKJV).

  • Release comfort to the traumatized; make Your church a balm in Gilead (2 Corinthians 1:3–4, NKJV).

  • Break the spirit of fear; enthrone power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7, NKJV).

  • Raise up evangelists in the relief lines—gentle, compassionate, bold—to offer bread for the body and bread of life for the soul (John 6:35, NKJV).

  • Let true fasting overflow—to “share your bread with the hungry… and not hide yourself from your own flesh,” that healing may break forth speedily (Isaiah 58:7–8, NKJV).

Unite church and community. As in Acts 2, let believers hold things in common and ensure that none lack (Acts 2:44–45, NKJV). Dismantle suspicion; amplify collaboration. We ask You for one heart and one way (Jeremiah 32:39, NKJV). Where pride divides, let humility heal. Where fatigue overwhelms, renew strength like eagles (Isaiah 40:31, NKJV).

Turn help into testimony. Make Jamaica a sign and a wonder: ports moving, parishes receiving, pastors shepherding, partners rejoicing. Let newspapers and timelines be filled with stories of deliverance—“We prayed, and the truck arrived”; “We lacked, and God provided”; “We despaired, and the Lord sent comforters.” Let many say, “The Lord has done great things for them”—and we reply, “Yes, and we are glad” (Psalm 126:3, NKJV).

We covenant to steward and to thank. Keep us from hoarding or boasting. Teach our leaders and our people to account well, distribute fairly, and give thanks continually (Colossians 3:17, NKJV). And when You have given us “more than enough”—as in Moses’ day when the people were restrained from bringing because the offering was too much (Exodus 36:5–7, NKJV)—teach us to bless the nations in return (Psalm 67:1–2, NKJV).

Finally, Father, we ask exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think, according to the power that works in us (Ephesians 3:20, NKJV). Let streams become rivers, and rivers become a sea of help; let mercy and truth meet, righteousness and peace kiss (Psalm 85:10, NKJV). Over Jamaica we decree: “You shall be called Sought Out, a city not forsaken” (Isaiah 62:12, NKJV).

We seal this prayer in the matchless name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

And if this prayer touched your heart, share it with others. You never know who is silently crying out to God, waiting for the reminder that He still sees them and He still provides.
