The Christian Life with Colline: Know What You Are Carrying & Activate Your Spiritual Gifts
By: Colline Goulbourne, Evangelizing Servant of God
You never truly know what spiritual gift you are carrying. Sometimes God tells you directly; other times He confirms it through someone else and then proves it to you by demonstrating His power through you. Be encouraged—the gift inside of you is not to be taken for granted.
It was planted in you for a purpose, and it must be activated for the glory of God.
As Paul wrote to Timothy: “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands” (2 Timothy 1:6, NKJV).
Gifts are not meant to remain dormant. They are meant to be stirred up, developed, and used to build God’s Kingdom.
An Encounter That Opened My Eyes
I remember once I went to comb a child’s hair. I didn’t know my way to their home, so my old schoolmate—the child’s mother—met me Downtown and brought me there. As I walked into the yard, I noticed a man standing at a distance. She told me he was the child’s father.
When I approached and greeted him respectfully, he explained that whenever someone came to his home, he would stand afar off and pray, allowing the Holy Spirit to show him who was entering his house. He was like a spiritual gatekeeper over his family.
I admired him deeply. He wasn’t just the head of the household—he was a spiritual guard protecting his children from anything not of God. As we spoke, he told me something I wasn’t expecting: “I see that you have the gift of discernment.”
I was shocked. “Who, me?” At the time, it wasn’t clear to me that I had this gift, though God had shown me glimpses. But that moment confirmed what God had planted in me.
Pray for God to Reveal Your Gifts
From that day, I began asking God to manifest Himself more clearly in the gifts He had placed in me. I prayed, “Lord, show me all the gifts You have placed inside of me for Your plans and purposes, for Your glory.”
Talk to God as you would talk to a friend. He is right there, waiting to commune with you. Tell Him how you feel, what you desire, and the questions hidden in your heart. He longs to release your doubts and uncertainties so He can rebuild you and activate the gifts inside of you.
James 1:5 (NKJV) says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” In the same way, ask Him to reveal your gifts. He will show you.
Let Go and Let God
The gifts God has given you are not meant to remain hidden. They are for His plans, His will, and His glory. But it requires a heart of surrender. You’ll never know what you are truly carrying until you decide to “let go and let God” have His way in your life.
Romans 12:6 (NKJV) reminds us, “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them.”
Gifts are meant to be used—both for our growth and to serve others.
Stay in His Presence and Feed on His Word
If you want your spiritual gifts to manifest, stay in God’s presence and continually feed on His Word. As you grow spiritually, those gifts will rise to the surface and be activated in God’s power, for His glory.
Be encouraged. What you are carrying is far greater than who you think you are. There is power in your calling, and the gifts inside of you are for a purpose. Pray and ask God to reveal them. Walk in faith. Let Him manifest them in this season.
Ephesians 3:20 (NKJV):
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…”
Be Encouraged
Don’t underestimate the gifts God has placed inside of you. They’re more than talents—they’re weapons, tools, and blessings meant for His Kingdom. As you surrender and walk in obedience, He will show you what you are carrying and use it for His glory.
Be blessed!
Meditate on God’s Word
Many Christians struggle daily to live according to God’s word. But we need daily nourishment. That is why it is important to read your bible daily; even if it is a few verses and meditate on them.
