The Daily Mystery of Dreams & Visions
By: Minister Denise N. Fyffe
Every morning I wake up to a mystery: What did I dream? What does my dream mean? What is it revealing about my life?
This morning, a mantra echoed in my mind: “Dreams are truly a mystery.”
The Daily Mystery
You never know what you will dream about when you go to bed. You never know where you will find yourself, or with whom. You often do not know what it means. Even if you become aware or start lucid dreaming, you never know how the dream will end. Truly, dreams are a mystery.
I dream every day or night. Once I am sleeping, I am dreaming. So, for me, I wake up to a new mystery every morning. Sometimes the mystery is simply: “What did I actually dream last night?”
At times, I feel as if I am hiding the dream from myself—or perhaps God is. Sometimes it feels like walking through a fog. Then I come to a clearing. Suddenly, the dream is right there in my mind’s eye.
I start to walk through the scenes, analyzing everything. I try to understand the symbolism, to recall how I felt in those moments, because feelings often decide the interpretation. Other times, I don’t have to try at all. The dream is so vivid and real. It feels as if I am awake.
When Dreams Turn Dark
There are dreams that are demonic, meaning they are dreams from evil sources or with an evil presence. They leave behind a stain of fear or dread.
I have had dreams and visions where demons manifested profoundly. Even though my physical body was asleep, my spiritual man was awake. So, I am able to see them. I can hear them and sense them. Sometimes, I simply know that they are there even if I do not see them.
I remember a season of spiritual cleansing a few years ago. Perhaps due to past encounters, demons had gained access to my life. They held what is known as a “legal right.” If you read my book or access the Dreams & Visions online course, you will better understand about legal rights. I encourage you to get a copy, so that you can learn at your leisure.
Now, during that time, I had a dream that shifted into a vision. I became aware of being in my room, sensing a presence by my bed. It grabbed me and declared it would never let me go. This happened twice.
Let me tell you plainly: demons are real.
They do not want to release anyone once they have gained a foothold. But I had provoked this manifestation because I was in constant prayer—and fasting—for over a year. I was cleansing my life of evil seeds, roots, arrows, and traits sown by others. I didn’t need to know the details; I just needed them gone. And where harm was intended, I sent it back to the sender. That is spiritual warfare.
As Scripture reminds us: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12).
The Reality of the Spiritual Realm
I share my story so you may understand that demonic activity and manifestation are real. They are not simply nightmares, fairy tales, or figments of imagination. Often, what we imagine are glimpses of what we have seen in the spirit realm.
Those gifted as seers know this truth. Even many fantastical or horror movies are birthed from dreams and visions. Personally, I avoid horror films because they are too real to me, and many push a demonic agenda. They open spiritual doors for evil spirits to enter a person’s life – to gain a foothold.
The spiritual is just as real as the physical. I live at least a third of my life—in awareness—in the spiritual realm. And so do many of you. Yet even with this awareness, dreams remain a progressive mystery that unfolds night after night.
As Job declared: “For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed” (Job 33:14–15).
Be Encouraged
Dreams and visions are like a Rubik’s cube—complex, colorful, and requiring patience to unlock. But I encourage you to follow the guidance I share in my book, The Mystery of Dreams and Visions:
- Write down your dreams. Keep a journal to capture details before they fade.
- Read your Bible. Scripture is the key to discernment and interpretation.
- Study symbolism. Learn how God speaks through imagery.
- Pray. Seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance for understanding and direction.
Above all, remember: “The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever” (Deuteronomy 29:29).
Be blessed and be encouraged.
Note: Your dream can also have a different meaning – unique to you. Therefore, examine the other symbols, characters, and current situation in your life.
