Spiritual Warfare Teaching Series: Deliverance Ministry – Part 2
Teaching Series: Born into Battle – Equipping the Saints for Spiritual Warfare By: Minister Denise N. Fyffe
Opening Scripture
“Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” – John 8:36 (NKJV)
Introduction
I recall ministering to a young woman who had been plagued by fear for years. She loved the Lord, but every night she was tormented by panic and nightmares. As we prayed, the Holy Spirit revealed the root — a traumatic event from her childhood that had opened a door to the enemy. Once that door was closed through repentance and forgiveness, the fear left, and peace took its place. In Spiritual Warfare: Born into Battle, I explain that deliverance is not just about casting something out; it’s about closing the entry points and filling the person with God’s presence so freedom lasts.
The Step-by-Step Flow of Deliverance
- Preparation – Both minister and recipient should be prayed up, submitted to God, and covered by the blood of Jesus. The minister should be discerning, not rushing, and ready to follow the Holy Spirit’s lead.
- Discernment – Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the root cause of the oppression. This may come through conversation, prayer, or a word of knowledge. Not every struggle is demonic; wisdom is essential.
- Repentance and Renunciation – The person must confess any sin, forgive those who have wronged them, and renounce any involvement with darkness (occult practices, ungodly soul ties, agreements with lies). This closes the legal ground the enemy has been using.
- Command and Expulsion – In the authority of Jesus’ name, command the unclean spirit to leave. This is done calmly but firmly, with the understanding that the power is in His name, not in volume or emotion.
- Filling and Sealing – Immediately invite the Holy Spirit to fill every place that has been vacated. Pray for the person to be strengthened, restored, and rooted in God’s Word.
- Instruction for Maintaining Freedom – Teach them how to guard their heart, stay in fellowship, and use Scripture in daily life. Freedom is maintained through ongoing discipleship, prayer, and obedience.
Closing the Doors to the Enemy
In the book, I outline common “doors” the enemy uses: unrepented sin, unforgiveness, occult involvement, ungodly relationships, and agreement with lies. Closing these doors is as important as the moment of deliverance itself. Without this step, the enemy may try to return, as Jesus warned in Matthew 12:43–45.
Helping People Stay Free
Deliverance is the beginning of a journey, not the end. Encourage the person to develop a daily habit of prayer and Scripture reading, to stay connected to a healthy church, and to avoid environments or influences that could reopen old wounds. Accountability relationships are invaluable for long-term freedom.
Practical Exercise for the Week
Ask the Holy Spirit to show you if there are any “open doors” in your life. Write them down, then take time to repent, forgive, and renounce anything He reveals. Find at least one Scripture to declare over each area as a seal of truth.
Reflection Question
- Am I guarding my life in such a way that the enemy has no legal ground to return, and am I helping others do the same after they receive freedom?
Be Encouraged
Deliverance is a ministry of love, restoration, and empowerment. In Spiritual Warfare: Born into Battle, I share detailed prayers, renunciation guides, and follow-up steps to help people walk in lasting freedom. If you don’t yet have your copy, I encourage you to get it and use it as your manual. The more we understand both the process and the follow-up, the more we will see believers not only set free but staying free.
