Spiritual Warfare Teaching Series: Weapons of Warfare – Part 1
Teaching Series: Born into Battle – Equipping the Saints for Spiritual Warfare By: Minister Denise N. Fyffe
Opening Scripture
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.” – 2 Corinthians 10:4 (NKJV)
Introduction
I was reminded recently that passion alone doesn’t win battles — precision does. I was in prayer about a situation that had been dragging on for months, and the Lord gently showed me that I had been swinging wildly instead of using the specific weapons He had already placed in my hands.
In Spiritual Warfare: Born into Battle, I explain that God has issued every believer a set of spiritual weapons — not ornamental, but functional. Each one is designed to confront a specific tactic of the enemy and to enforce the victory of Jesus in our lives. Today, we’ll look at the first four: Prayer, Praise & Worship, Fasting, and The Word & Declarations.
1. Prayer – The Command Center
Prayer is not an emergency flare; it’s the daily communication line with our Commander. Jesus said, “When you pray…” (Matthew 6:5, NKJV) — not if. Prayer is where we receive orders, gain strength, and close spiritual breaches.
When the early church prayed, prison doors opened (Acts 12:5–11). James 5:16 (NKJV) reminds us, “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” Prayer is not about convincing God to act; it’s about aligning ourselves with His will so His purposes can be released on earth.
2. Praise & Worship – Atmosphere Weapons
Praise changes the air. Psalm 22:3 (NKJV) says God is “enthroned in the praises of Israel.” When Judah sent singers ahead of the army, God ambushed their enemies (2 Chronicles 20:21–22).
Praise and worship shift the focus from the problem to the Problem-Solver. They suffocate fear and feed faith. In Acts 16:25–26, Paul and Silas sang hymns in prison — and the chains fell off. Praise is not a warm-up for the sermon; it is a weapon that breaks spiritual resistance.
3. Fasting – Amplification and Alignment
Fasting quiets the flesh so the spirit can hear clearly. Isaiah 58:6 (NKJV) calls it the fast that “looses the bonds of wickedness… and breaks every yoke.” Jesus Himself said, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting” (Mark 9:29, NKJV).
Fasting is not about earning God’s favor; it’s about removing distractions and sharpening spiritual sensitivity. It positions us to wield other weapons — like prayer and the Word — with greater clarity and authority.
4. The Word & Declarations – Sword and Speech
The Word of God is both our map and our blade. Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV) says it is “sharper than any two-edged sword.” Jesus defeated the tempter by declaring, “It is written…” (Matthew 4:4, NKJV).
Declarations are when we speak God’s Word aloud in agreement with Heaven. Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV) reminds us, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” When we declare Scripture, we dismantle lies and establish truth in the atmosphere.
Practical Exercise for the Week
P.R.A.Y. Drill – For the next 7 days:
- P – Praise: Begin with 3 minutes of thanksgiving and one worship song.
- R – Repent/Release: Confess any sin; forgive anyone who comes to mind.
- A – Ask: Present one specific request with a matching Scripture.
- Y – Yield: Spend 2 minutes listening for the Holy Spirit’s direction.
Reflection Question
- Which of these four weapons — prayer, praise, fasting, or the Word — do I most need to sharpen this week, and what one step will I take to do so?
Be Encouraged
These are only the first four of the eight weapons God has given you. In Spiritual Warfare: Born into Battle, I unpack each one with drills, declarations, and real-life examples so you can train with them daily. If you don’t yet have your copy, I encourage you to get it and use it as your personal field manual. The more you practice with these weapons, the more precise and effective you’ll be in enforcing Christ’s victory in your life.
Please feel free to drop us a line, using the Prayer Request Contact form and we will pray for you.
The Invitation
I invite you today to take a deep look at yourself and reflect on your life. Are you searching for something more? Are you satisfied with how things are today? Is God calling you to confess your sins, be baptized and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? Have you been ignoring him? What can you do to take the first step?
Trust God to help you with that first step.
