The Poet’s Prayer: Prayer for Discernment and Choosing What Is Best
By: Minister Denise N. Fyffe
Karla was a woman of wisdom—steady, discerning, and usually confident in her decisions. But this time, the storm around her was different. Disunity had crept into her circle, sowing confusion and wounding hearts. She felt the weight of it and turned to the One who sees all.
That night, as she opened her Bible, the Spirit led her to a timeless prayer penned by the Apostle Paul. It wasn’t coincidence—it was divine intervention.
“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.”—Philippians 1:9–11 (NIV)
This scripture became Karla’s anchor. In the midst of relational tension, she realized that love, wisdom, and spiritual insight were the keys to navigating the storm.
A Word for Us
We all encounter moments when relationships feel fragile and unity is threatened. In those moments, we must lean into God’s wisdom—not our own understanding. His Word equips us to discern what is best, not just what is easy or familiar.
A Prayer for Clarity and Love
Father God,
Let Your love overflow in me. Where my patience wears thin, renew me with Your Spirit. Teach me to respond with gentleness, even when others are harsh. Let my words and actions reflect Your goodness and draw others toward Your heart.
Grant me discernment, Lord—not just to choose what is good, but to choose what is best. Strengthen me to walk in humility, trusting Your wisdom above my own. Let my life be a testimony of Your grace and truth.
Keep my heart pure, my thoughts aligned with Your Word, and my attitude anchored in Christ. May I never cast a shadow on Your name, but instead shine with the light of Jesus in every place of conflict.
Fill me with Your love until it spills over—into my relationships, my decisions, and my daily walk. Help me grow in spiritual insight so I may avoid the traps of error and walk in righteousness. Let this situation bear fruit that glorifies You.
In the mighty name of Jesus,
Amen.
