Spiritual Warfare Teaching Series: Territorial Warfare – Part 2
Teaching Series: Born into Battle – Equipping the Saints for Spiritual Warfare By: Minister Denise N. Fyffe
Opening Scripture
“I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.” – Joshua 1:3 (NKJV)
Introduction
When Joshua led Israel into the Promised Land, their victories were not random. Each city was taken through specific instructions from God — sometimes marching in silence for days, other times sending warriors ahead, and in one case, blowing trumpets until the walls fell (Joshua 6). These were not human strategies; they were prophetic acts of obedience that shifted the spiritual atmosphere over entire territories. In Spiritual Warfare: Born into Battle, I explain that territorial warfare requires both discernment and obedience — knowing what God is saying for a specific place and then acting on it in faith.
Fasting for Territorial Breakthrough
Fasting is a powerful way to humble ourselves before God and seek His intervention over a region. In the book (p. 145), I share how fasting sharpens spiritual perception and increases authority in prayer. Ezra proclaimed a fast before leading the people safely through dangerous territory (Ezra 8:21–23). When we fast for a city or region, we are asking God to break spiritual resistance and open the way for His Kingdom to advance.
Prophetic Acts in Warfare
Prophetic acts are Spirit-led physical actions that declare God’s will over a place. Joshua’s march around Jericho was one; Elisha striking the ground with arrows (2 Kings 13:14–19) was another. These acts are not rituals for their own sake — they are obedience to a specific instruction from God. In territorial warfare, this might look like prayer-walking, anointing the entrances of a neighborhood, or planting Scripture stakes in the ground as a declaration of God’s Word over the land.
Corporate Prayer and Unity
Some battles require the agreement of many. In Acts 4:24–31, the believers lifted their voices together, and the place where they prayed was shaken. Corporate prayer brings multiplied authority and can shift the atmosphere over entire regions. In Spiritual Warfare: Born into Battle, I note that unity is both a weapon and a shield — it amplifies our prayers and protects against division, which is one of the enemy’s favorite tactics to weaken territorial assignments.
Guarding the Ground You’ve Taken
Taking territory is one thing; holding it is another. After a breakthrough, the enemy often tries to re-establish his influence. This is why ongoing prayer, discipleship, and righteous living are essential. Jesus warned in Matthew 12:43–45 that an unoccupied, swept house can be re-inhabited by worse spirits if it’s left empty. Once ground is taken, it must be filled with God’s presence, truth, and activity.
Practical Exercise for the Week
Gather at least one other believer and choose a location to pray over together. Before you go, ask the Holy Spirit for any specific Scriptures, declarations, or prophetic acts He wants you to carry out. Record what you sense and what you see happen in the days following.
Reflection Question
- What territory in my life, community, or ministry needs a united, Spirit-led strategy to secure and protect it?
Be Encouraged
Territorial warfare is not about chasing darkness; it’s about establishing light. In Spiritual Warfare: Born into Battle, I share detailed examples, prayer models, and testimonies of how God has shifted entire regions through fasting, prophetic acts, and united prayer. If you don’t yet have your copy, I encourage you to get it and use it as your guide. The more you learn to hear and obey God’s specific instructions for a place, the more you’ll see His Kingdom come there in power.
