THE POET’S PRAYER • PSALM 11
Trusting God When Foundations Are Shaken
By Minister Denise N. Fyffe
Psalm 11 speaks to moments when everything dependable seems unstable. The question is not whether foundations can shake, but where we look when they do.
Read Psalm 11
King James Version (KJV) — full chapter
1. In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?
2. For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart.
3. If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?
4. The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD’S throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.
5. The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.
6. Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.
7. For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.
“In the LORD I put my trust.” — Psalm 11:1 (NKJV)
Do Not Let Fear Choose Your Direction
Fear often tells us to run before we have prayed, listened or discerned. Psalm 11 reminds us that God remains on His throne even when people behave wickedly and circumstances feel uncertain.
Trust does not mean ignoring danger. It means refusing to let danger become greater in our minds than the God who sees all things.
God Still Sees
The Lord tests the righteous and observes the wicked. Nothing happening around us escapes His sight. That truth gives believers permission to remain steady while seeking wisdom.
A Prayer from Psalm 11
Lord, when the foundations around me feel unstable, keep my heart anchored in You. Do not let fear push me into confusion or panic. Help me to make wise decisions while remembering that You are still sovereign.
Let righteousness guide me. Let truth steady me. Let Your presence become more real to me than the uncertainty around me.
Be encouraged.
