BE ENCOURAGED • PERSEVERANCE
When You Have Done All You Know to Do, Keep Standing
By Minister Denise N. Fyffe
Faithfulness still matters after you have prayed, acted wisely and the answer has not yet appeared.

There is a particular kind of frustration that comes after you have done what you know to do. You prayed. You sought counsel. You corrected what needed correcting. You applied, called, prepared, apologized, saved, waited or tried again. Yet the situation still has not moved.
Ephesians 6:13 says, “and having done all, to stand” (NKJV). In context, Paul is teaching believers about spiritual readiness and the armor of God. The phrase also gives us an important picture: there are moments when faithful action is followed by faithful standing.
Standing Is Not Doing Nothing
Standing means refusing to abandon truth because the answer is delayed. It means continuing to obey God without manufacturing a shortcut. It means remaining prayerful and alert while refusing panic.
There is a difference between persistence and frantic activity. Sometimes constant movement is our attempt to control what we cannot control. Faith may require another action, but it may also require us to stop forcing doors and remain steady.
Check What Is Still Yours to Do
- Is there a practical responsibility you have avoided?
- Is there wisdom you received but have not applied?
- Is fear keeping you from a reasonable next step?
- Are you repeatedly trying to control something that belongs to another person?
- Have you confused waiting on God with refusing to make a decision?
Once you have answered those questions honestly, release what is beyond your control. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God” (NKJV). Stillness is not passivity when it is rooted in trust.
Do Not Let Delay Rewrite What God Has Taught You
A delayed answer can make yesterday’s convictions feel uncertain. Return to what Scripture clearly teaches. God remains faithful. Wisdom remains wisdom. Integrity remains necessary. Prayer remains appropriate. Your worth has not decreased because a door has not opened.
Keep standing without becoming hardened. Stay open to redirection. Stay willing to learn. Stay willing to act when the next step becomes clear. But do not surrender your peace merely because you cannot force the timetable.
You may be closer to change than you realize, or God may be developing something in you that will matter in the next season. Either way, faithfulness today is not wasted.
The Invitation
God’s greatest gift to us is salvation through Jesus Christ. If you have not accepted Him as Lord and Savior, do not ignore His invitation.
In Jesus mighty name, Amen.
