The Christian Life: Living a Consecrated Life by Replacing Lust and Masturbation with the Love of God
By: Denise N. Fyffe
One of the keys to overcoming masturbation and sexual temptation is not only resisting sin but also filling your life with the love of God. When your heart is satisfied with His presence, the cravings of the flesh lose their power.
“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.” — Psalm 42:1–2 (NKJV)
A consecrated life means setting yourself apart—body, mind, and spirit—for God’s use. It is a lifestyle of purity, worship, and devotion that leaves no room for lust.
Why Consecration is Powerful
When you consecrate yourself, you declare that your life belongs fully to the Lord. Every thought, every decision, and every desire is submitted to Him. This weakens the hold of sin because the more you focus on God, the less power temptation has over you.
“Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” — 2 Corinthians 7:1 (NKJV)
Practical Ways to Live Consecrated
-
Daily Devotion and Worship
Begin and end each day in God’s presence. Sing, pray, and meditate on His Word. Worship drives away temptation. -
Commit Your Body to God
Speak this often: “Lord, my body is Yours. I consecrate my eyes, my hands, and my mind to You.” -
Fast Regularly
Fasting humbles the flesh and strengthens your spirit. Even one day a week dedicated to fasting can bring great victory. -
Fill Your Mind with Godly Content
Replace lustful thoughts with Scriptures, sermons, and worship music. Starve the flesh, feed the spirit. -
Serve Others in Love
Lust turns inward, but love turns outward. Get involved in serving at your church, helping the needy, or supporting someone in prayer.
A Short Prayer of Consecration
“Father, I give You my body, mind, and spirit. Cleanse me from every unholy desire and fill me with Your love. Let my life be a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You. Teach me to thirst for Your presence above all else. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Final Encouragement
Remember, lust loses its grip when God’s love fills the empty spaces. The more you pursue intimacy with Him, the less attraction sin will hold. Choose consecration daily, and soon you will discover the joy and freedom of living fully in the presence of God.
