The Christian Life: Living a Consecrated Life by Replacing Lust and Masturbation with the Love of God

One of the keys to overcoming sexual temptation is not only resisting sin but also filling your life with the love of God. When your heart is being formed by His presence, prayer, Scripture and worship, sinful patterns have less room to dominate your attention.
“As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.” — Psalm 42:1–2 (NKJV)
A consecrated life means setting yourself apart—body, mind and spirit—for God’s use. It is a lifestyle of worship, obedience, purity and devotion.
Why Consecration Is Powerful
When you consecrate yourself, you acknowledge that your life belongs to the Lord. Thoughts, decisions and desires are brought under His Word rather than treated as untouchable private territory.
“Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” — 2 Corinthians 7:1 (NKJV)
Practical Ways to Live Consecrated
Daily Devotion and Worship
Begin and end the day in God’s presence through prayer, worship and Scripture.
Commit Your Body to God
Remind yourself that your eyes, hands, mind and choices belong to the Lord.
Use Fasting Wisely
Let fasting reduce distraction and create focused room for prayer. It should not become punishment or a substitute for responsible care of the body.
Fill Your Mind With Godly Content
Replace recurring temptation with Scripture, teaching, worship and thoughts that support holiness.
Serve Others in Love
Turn attention outward through prayer, service, generosity and participation in healthy Christian community.
Use Accountability and Community
Isolation often strengthens secret patterns. Trusted Christian support can strengthen perseverance and honesty.
A Short Prayer of Consecration
Father, I give You my body, mind and spirit. Cleanse me from every unholy desire and fill me with Your love. Let my life be a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You. Teach me to thirst for Your presence above all else. In Jesus’ name, amen.
