The Christian Life with Colline: God Doesn’t Watch the Appearance, He Looks at the Heart

By: Colline Goulbourne, Evangelizing Servant of God

Today I want you to understand something. The plan you went for is not always the plan God has for you. Be encouraged, for this is the day that the Lord has made. Give thanks to God at all times.

The message that came to my spirit is this: “Your purpose in God is not shown in your appearance — it is within you. You are carrying greatness for God’s glory.”

You may not see it now, but inside of you, there are gifts, strength, and divine purpose that go far beyond what others can perceive. People may look at your outward appearance and underestimate what God has placed within you — but God looks deeper.

As it says in 1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV):
“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’”

God’s Approval Is Greater Than Man’s Approval

Man’s approval is not God’s approval. Allow God’s approval to be made manifest within you so His greatness may flow through you for His glory. Just like David, the young shepherd boy, you may be overlooked by others, even by those closest to you.

David’s father, Jesse, presented his older sons to the prophet Samuel, believing they were the most worthy. Yet God had chosen David — the one everyone least expected — because of the purity of his heart and his obedience to God.

When Samuel anointed David, the Bible says, “The Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward” (1 Samuel 16:13, NKJV).

God’s calling and anointing are not based on how qualified you appear to be, but on how available your heart is to be used by Him.

God’s Plan Is Often Hidden in Unexpected Places

The place you go or the event you attend may not be the true reason God sent you there. God’s mission and plan often unfold in the unexpected moments.

I remember when my child was invited to a friend’s birthday party. She was excited to go, and I went with her. When we arrived at the gate, I heard that one of the children had fallen sick during the party. As I stood there, I felt God speak to my spirit:

“Go into the room where the sick child is. I will do what only I can do.”

I obeyed immediately. I went into the room, laid hands on the child, and anointed her with oil as I prayed for her healing. While I was praying, the little girl said she felt something flowing from my hands. She said she felt better — the pain had left her.

That moment reminded me: although I went to the party for one reason, God had another plan. He had sent me on a mission I did not even know about.

The Power of Obedience to God’s Instructions

God works in mysterious ways. We cannot always understand His methods, but we can trust His purpose. His ways are supernatural, and His timing is perfect.

When I obeyed the voice of God and prayed for that child, His presence filled the room. The Spirit of the Lord brought healing and deliverance. That young girl was touched and made whole through God’s power — not mine.

It is such a humbling and beautiful experience when God chooses to use you as His vessel. There is no greater joy than knowing He is working through you to do miracles, to heal, and to bring deliverance.

As it says in Philippians 2:13 (NKJV):
“For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”

Be Available for God to Use You

Whatever situation you find yourself in today, be open to God’s divine interruptions. You may think you are doing something ordinary, but God may be setting up an extraordinary assignment for His glory.

Be available. Be obedient. Be ready to move when God speaks. He can use you anywhere — in your home, at work, in a store, or even at a child’s birthday party.

Let your prayer be: “Lord, I am Your vessel. Use me for Your glory. Not my will, but Yours be done.”

When you surrender your plans, God reveals His purpose. When you make yourself available, He makes Himself known through you.

Be encouraged today — God doesn’t need perfection; He needs your heart.

Be blessed!

Meditate on God’s Word

Many Christians struggle daily to live according to God’s word. But we need daily nourishment. That is why it is important to read your bible daily; even if it is a few verses and meditate on them.
