Objects & Household Items in Dreams

Keys, doors, phones, lamps, furniture, tools, books, containers and ordinary household items can become important because of what they are doing in the dream, who is using them, their condition, and the role they play in the larger scene.

Questions to Ask

  • Was the object familiar, new, broken, missing, hidden or unexpectedly valuable?
  • Who owned, gave, took, repaired or used it?
  • What practical function did it serve in the dream?
  • Did it open, close, connect, illuminate, contain, protect or restrict?
  • Does the object have a strong personal association for you?

The ordinary use of an object often matters more than a generic dictionary definition. Compare its practical purpose, biblical associations where relevant, and its role in the complete dream.

Steward the Dream: Record It

Write the dream or vision down while the details are fresh. Record the date, people, setting, words, symbols, emotions and what happened before and after. Return to your journal prayerfully over time. Patterns, confirmations and later events can deepen understanding and help you compare what repeats over time. They may also help you discern whether a dream was spiritually significant, but they should not be treated as automatic proof that God is communicating or as a measure of prophetic status. Do not rely on memory alone.
