“If you have faith as a mustard seed … nothing will be impossible for you.” — Matthew 17:20 (NKJV)

Week 5

I have often been told that the fasting process will expose things that we have attempted to keep hidden. I can now say that this was true for me. Week 5 presented a few things that had been difficult to overcome before but were now in my sights. The flesh and its cravings were among the biggest hurdles. I recognized that there were areas I would need to address intentionally in future seasons of consecration.

Week 6

The final days seemed easier. I found myself wondering whether God had already addressed what I had been fasting about. The intensity of the earlier weeks had changed, and I reached the end of the period with a different perspective than when I began.

What I Noticed at the End

My fast was at an end. I felt different physically, spiritually and mentally. I had lost weight and inches, my appetite felt different, and my eating habits had changed. Those were my own observations from that period.

I also became more deliberate about water, food choices and returning to exercise after surgery. Looking back, those choices belong to my personal story and should not be treated as instructions for another person’s recovery, diabetes management or fasting regimen.

Spiritually, I felt more attentive to the Holy Spirit. I was praying more, seeking more insight from Scripture and becoming more willing to respond when I believed God was directing me.

At that juncture I expected there would be more seasons of fasting ahead. The experience had changed my confidence and taught me that a long fast reveals much more than appetite—it exposes habits, motives, dependence, endurance and the need for grace.

All in all, I came out a better person than the one who entered.

“Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke?” — Isaiah 58:6 (NKJV)
