The Prophet’s School of Brokenness by Denise N. Fyffe

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. – Psalm 51:17 (ESV)

God demands a sacrifice from His prophets and it is a sacrifice that we must pay.

If God wants His prophet to be totally reliant on Him, He is going to train you up in the School of Brokenness; and after He is done, that man or woman will have no confidence in their own selves but, total confidence in God.

There are many men and women from biblical times who are very familiar with these lessons:

Jacob after he had wrestled with an Angel and walking with a limp
Moses after 40 years in the desert after being exiled from Egypt – the meekest man on earth.
Pharaoh, whose heart was hardened and broken after the death of his son, finally let God’s people go.
The Israelites in the desert after 40 years
King David of Israel, committed adultery and murder was depressed until he confessed his sin.
Paul, admitting he was a persecutor of the Church.

When one comes up against the will of God, you better be ready to yield or to die. Many of us will choose the former; willingly or unwillingly. His will, will be done, regardless. But the prophet who is successfully broken, will no longer be harsh, hard or stubborn.

The key trait of the prophet will be meekness, total reliance on God for everything.

When God sends out His prophets in the earth, they will be sensitive and compassionate to His people; no evidence of pride and callousness.

Then and only then, can he freely and easily show great miracles and signs and wonders through His prophet and His prophet will take none of the credit.

When God takes a person through the school of brokenness, it is noticeable when they fail at things in their lives. This allows the person to be transformed, no longer confident in their own skills, talents and abilities; but now, totally reliant on God.

Are they servants of Christ? I know I sound like a madman, but I have served him far more! I have worked harder, been put in prison more often, been whipped times without number, and faced death again and again. Five different times the Jewish leaders gave me thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea. I have travelled on many long journeys. I have faced danger from rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be believers but are not. I have worked hard and long, enduring many sleepless nights. I have been hungry and thirsty and have often gone without food. I have shivered in the cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm. Then, besides all this, I have the daily burden of my concern for all the churches. Who is weak without my feeling that weakness? Who is led astray, and I do not burn with anger? If I must boast, I would rather boast about the things that show how weak I am. —2 Corinthians 11:23-28 (NLT)

For certainly this is a speech of a broken man, who seeks no credit of his own, but gives all glory unto God.

I have not faced these same danger, but I have known what it is to fight for my life from both man and evil spirits. And yet, I know how to surrender to God to do the fighting for me.

As a prophet of the Almighty God, I have lived through many calamities, depression and failures; God is still working on me.
