In the face of overwhelming fear and impending danger, one man’s unwavering faith and resolute actions demonstrated the power of seeking the Lord wholeheartedly. The story of Jehoshaphat, as recounted in 2 Chronicles 20:1-30, serves as a powerful reminder that when we turn to God in worship and fasting, He fights our battles and grants us the rest we desperately seek.

Let’s delve into this inspiring account and discover the timeless lessons it holds for us today.

The Burden of Fear

Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, found himself in a precarious situation. A vast army advanced against his people, instilling fear, and uncertainty in the hearts of all. Yet, instead of succumbing to despair, Jehoshaphat made a conscious decision to seek the Lord.

Seeking the Lord in Worship

Recognizing the significance of spiritual intervention, Jehoshaphat called for a fast throughout all Judah. The entire nation gathered, humbling themselves before the Lord, offering praises and worship. Their actions revealed a deep reliance on God’s power and a belief that He would fight on their behalf.

Divine Deliverance

As the people poured out their hearts in worship, God’s response was swift and miraculous. Through a prophetic word, they received the assurance that the battle was not theirs but God’s. With renewed confidence, they marched forward, trusting in the Lord’s promises.

The Power of Praise

Amidst the chaos of the battlefield, Jehoshaphat assigned singers to lead the army, declaring praises to the Lord. This unconventional strategy showcased their unwavering faith and belief that God’s presence and power would bring them victory. And indeed, it did! God caused confusion among the enemy forces, leading to their ultimate defeat.

Abundant Rest and Provision

As the battle concluded, Jehoshaphat and his people experienced God’s abundant provision. The spoils of the enemy were collected, and the land enjoyed a newfound peace and rest. Through their faith, worship, and fasting, they had witnessed firsthand the miraculous power of God in their lives.

Conclusion

Jehoshaphat’s story serves as a testament to the transformative power of seeking the Lord wholeheartedly. In times of fear and uncertainty, when it feels as though the odds are against us, we can find strength and deliverance in fasting, worship, and unwavering faith.

Just as Jehoshaphat experienced divine intervention, so too can we conquer our battles when we trust in God’s sovereignty and rely on His mighty hand. Let us be inspired by this account and approach our own challenges with a resolute determination to seek the Lord, knowing that He fights for us and grants us the rest we long for.

  1. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Another verse that came to mind.

  2. At times my husband and I will skip; lunch. We feel led to do this, because we are praying for those who have been battling something. We don’t always, but I believe it is wonderful to give up one thing for a long while. I don’t eat bread, because I have given it up for good reasons. I rarely eat it anymore, and yes, I give it to God. When we had communion the other day, I ate the bread. I smiled because this was the first bread for a while. God will show what to do, and fasting doesn’t have to be everyday, but when one is in ministry, it is wonderful to pray about things, and give up something for a while. My husband is a minister, and we have been together as of this summer for 54 years. That is awhile, but God brought us together. Two in agreement put 10,000 to flight. We often agree in prayer. You know, No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. Bible.

    1. Continue, in humility and obedience. Prayer is necessary and beneficial to the soul and also in service to others.

    2. Thank you. I believe it makes a difference to fast when we feel led. God sees clear to the heart. Many times we need wisdom.

  3. I love the idea of worship winning the battle.
