Be Encouraged: Is This the End Times? Is War a Sign of the End?
By: Minister Denise N. Fyffe
Every time war breaks out — whether in Israel, Ukraine, Africa, or elsewhere — Christians and non-believers alike begin to ask: Is this the end? Is Bible prophecy being fulfilled? Is Jesus coming soon? These are valid questions. And as believers, we are not called to panic, but to discern the times with wisdom, prayer, and Scripture.
In Matthew 24:6-8 (NKJV), Jesus gives a clear and sobering warning:
“And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.”
Wars Are a Sign—But Not the Final One
According to Jesus, wars will happen — they are part of what He called “the beginning of sorrows.” In other words, while war is a sign of a broken world drawing closer to judgment, it does not mean the world is ending tomorrow.
Rather, it points to the unfolding of God’s divine plan.
We must understand that these signs (wars, famines, earthquakes, persecution) are like birth pangs — increasing in frequency and intensity as the day of the Lord draws nearer.
Discerning the Signs Without Fear
As believers, we are not called to live in fear but in readiness.
1 Thessalonians 5:1-6 (NKJV) reminds us:
“But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night… But you, brethren, are not in darkness… Therefore, let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.”
God does not want His children to be caught off guard. He wants us to be awake, alert, and in tune with the Spirit. That means we watch the signs—but we also stay anchored in the Word and in His presence.
Biblical Events That Must Still Occur
While many signs have already been fulfilled or are unfolding, other major prophetic events are yet to come, including:
-
The global preaching of the gospel (Matthew 24:14)
-
The rise of the Antichrist (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4)
-
The rebuilding of the Third Temple in Jerusalem (Daniel 9:27)
-
The Great Tribulation and the final war of Armageddon (Revelation 16:16)
These are signs to watch for, but they are complex and not always immediately visible. That’s why studying the Word and being led by the Holy Spirit is critical in times like these.
How Should Christians Respond?
-
Don’t Panic—Pray.
Fear is not from God. Panic makes people vulnerable to deception. Instead, let your response be to fall on your knees and intercede—for your country, for the nations, for your loved ones. -
Live Ready.
Jesus said to watch and pray. This is not the time to compromise with sin, play church, or be lukewarm. Keep your lamp full (Matthew 25), walk in holiness, and obey the Spirit. -
Preach the Gospel.
The urgency of the hour is a call to evangelism. Millions don’t know Christ. If the end is near, our mission is clear. Tell them about Jesus while there is still time. -
Stand on the Word.
Many false prophets and theories arise during crises. But the Bible is our foundation. Study prophecy, stay rooted in truth, and seek God’s voice above all others.
Conclusion: Yes, These Are the Last Days—But There’s Still Work to Do
The wars we see today are signs—indicators that the earth is groaning and the return of Jesus is nearer than ever. But God has not given us a timeline; He has given us a task. To stay watchful, to preach, to endure, and to remain faithful until the very end.
Whether Jesus returns today, next year, or in fifty years—let Him find us faithful.
Luke 21:28 (NKJV):
“Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”
