The Christian Life with Colline: Don’t Run From the Task God Has Given You (Part 1)

By: Colline Goulbourne, Evangelizing Servant of God

The message that came to me is this: “The task that is given to you is what you never expected.”

Sometimes, God places an assignment in your life that feels too big, too heavy, or too impossible. But the truth is this — every task God gives you comes with the resources, strength, and power of the Holy Spirit to accomplish it. It is not in your will, your strength, or your power, but in God’s strength and power working through you.

Equipped for the Assignment

Think of a workman. He carries his tools to complete his profession. In the same way, God has already equipped you with the “tools” of your assignment — the gifts of the Spirit. Whatever He has placed in your hands to do, He has already placed the capacity inside you to do it.

Philippians 4:13 reminds us:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

So do not look at yourself and say, “I can’t do this.” Instead, look at God and say, “Lord, Your power is enough for me to walk in this.”

Jonah’s Example: Running From the Task

We see this clearly in the story of Jonah (Jonah 1–4). God sent Jonah to deliver a message to the people of Nineveh. But Jonah doubted his ability and tried to run the opposite way. Fear and disobedience made him believe he could escape God’s plan.

Yet, God shook him awake through the storm and the great fish. Why? Because the task had to be done. God’s purpose for Nineveh would not fail, and Jonah was the one chosen to deliver it.

This shows us an important truth:
Even when we run from God’s assignment, He will bring us back to it. And often, the longer we delay, the harder the path becomes. If Jonah had obeyed the first time, he could have avoided the storm, the shipwreck, and the fish.

Stop Saying “I Can’t”

Many of us are like Jonah. We say:
“Who, me? I can’t do this. I’m too weak. I’m not able.”

But remember — you are just the vessel. God is the One who does the work through you.

2 Corinthians 12:9 says:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”

When you step out in obedience, His power will cover your weakness.

A Call to Obedience Today

So today, whatever task or assignment God has placed in front of you — do not run. Do not delay. Surrender to His will and let Him use you.

• You may not see your capacity, but God sees it.
• You may not feel strong, but His Spirit makes you strong.
• You may not understand the plan, but God has already gone ahead of you.

Be encouraged.

You are carrying greatness; you are carrying God’s glory.

Be blessed!

Meditate on God’s Word

Many Christians struggle daily to live according to God’s word. But we need daily nourishment. That is why it is important to read your bible daily; even if it is a few verses and meditate on them.
