Teaching Series: Born into Battle – Equipping the Saints for Spiritual Warfare

Opening Scripture

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” – Romans 12:21 (NKJV)

Introduction

When Joseph stood before the very brothers who had sold him into slavery, he had the power to punish them. Instead, he forgave and blessed them, saying, “You meant evil against me; but God meant it for good” (Genesis 50:20, NKJV). That moment was a holy ambush — the enemy expected revenge, but Joseph’s obedience released reconciliation and preserved a nation. In Spiritual Warfare: Born into Battle, I explain that God often uses the opposite spirit to dismantle the enemy’s plans. These “holy surprises” are not weakness; they are Spirit-led tactics that catch hell off guard.

Forgiveness as an Ambush

Unforgiveness is one of the enemy’s favorite entry points. Quick, deliberate forgiveness slams that door shut. Paul warned the Corinthians to forgive “lest Satan should take advantage of us” (2 Corinthians 2:10–11, NKJV). Forgiveness is not excusing wrong; it is releasing the offender to God’s justice and freeing yourself from the snare. In warfare, it’s like cutting the enemy’s supply line before he can advance.

Blessing Those Who Curse You

Jesus’ command in Matthew 5:44 — to bless, do good, and pray for those who oppose you — is a direct countermeasure to the cycle of retaliation. Blessing shifts the atmosphere, breaks the momentum of strife, and invites God’s intervention. The enemy expects escalation; blessing disarms him.

Secrecy with God

Not every assignment is for public announcement. Jesus taught, “When you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing” (Matthew 6:3, NKJV). Nehemiah inspected Jerusalem’s walls at night, telling no one what God had put in his heart (Nehemiah 2:12). Secrecy protects strategy from premature exposure and keeps the glory with God, not us.

Spirit-Guided Silence

There are moments when silence is the most powerful response. Jesus “answered nothing” to certain accusations (Mark 15:5, NKJV). Spirit-led silence can prevent unnecessary conflict, deny the enemy fuel, and keep you aligned with God’s timing. It is not avoidance; it is strategic restraint.

Abiding in the Secret Place

Psalm 91:1 (NKJV) promises that “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Staying hidden in God through prayer, worship, and obedience keeps you off the enemy’s radar. He cannot map what is concealed in Christ.

Practical Exercise for the Week

Choose one “holy surprise” tactic to practice intentionally this week:

• Forgive Fast: Within 24 hours of an offense, speak forgiveness aloud and pray blessing over the person.
• Secret Seed: Give or serve in a way that no one knows but God.
• Spirit-Led Silence: In a tense moment, pause, pray Psalm 141:3, and only speak if the Spirit prompts.

Record what happens — both in your heart and in the situation.

Reflection Question

• Which opposite-spirit tactic is hardest for me to practice, and how might the Holy Spirit be inviting me to use it as a weapon this week?
