Spiritual Warfare Teaching Series: Stealth Tactics – Part 1
Teaching Series: Born into Battle – Equipping the Saints for Spiritual Warfare By: Minister Denise N. Fyffe
Opening Scripture
“Lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.” – 2 Corinthians 2:11 (NKJV)
Introduction
In military history, some of the most decisive victories were won without a single cannon fired — they were won through stealth, infiltration, and surprise. The enemy slipped in quietly, undetected, until it was too late to respond. Spiritually, the devil uses the same approach. In Spiritual Warfare: Born into Battle, I explain that Satan rarely begins with an obvious frontal assault. Instead, he plants subtle lies, exploits small offenses, and hides behind what looks harmless. If we fail to recognize these tactics, we end up fighting the wrong battles in the wrong places.
Recognizing the Enemy’s Stealth
The first recorded attack in Scripture began with a question: “Has God indeed said…?” (Genesis 3:1, NKJV). The serpent didn’t roar; he whispered. Today, those whispers come as half-truths, selective memories, and “reasonable” compromises. They may sound harmless, but they are designed to erode trust in God’s Word. The countermeasure is to measure everything by Scripture (Acts 17:11; John 17:17).
Another stealth tactic is infiltration through relationships and atmospheres. The adversary loves familiar doors — resentment in families, flattery in friendships, mixture in churches (Acts 20:29–30). He hides behind gossip, offense, and secret envy. The counter is to guard your heart (Proverbs 4:23), refuse gossip (Ephesians 4:29), and practice biblical reconciliation (Matthew 18:15–17).
Respectable Darkness
Some of the enemy’s most effective disguises are socially acceptable. Occult curiosities rebranded as entertainment, bitterness repackaged as “boundaries,” pride disguised as “discernment.” The counter is to “abstain from every form of evil” (1 Thessalonians 5:22) and to cleanse your environment of anything that gives darkness a foothold (Acts 19:19).
Timing Traps
Satan often waits for moments when you are tired, isolated, or hurried (1 Peter 5:8). These are ambush points. The counter is to maintain holy rhythms — regular time in the Word, rest, fellowship, and worship (Mark 6:31; Hebrews 10:24–25).
Practical Exercise for the Week
Set aside 20 minutes to do a “stealth audit” of your life:
- Inputs: What books, shows, music, or “harmless” habits might be dulling your discernment?
- Relationships: Where might offense, flattery, or gossip be leaking spiritual intel?
- Rhythms: When are you most vulnerable — late nights, isolation, stress?
Write down one countermeasure for each category and begin applying it this week.
Reflection Question
- Where have I underestimated the enemy’s subtlety, and what specific step will I take to close that gap in my defenses?
Be Encouraged
Stealth tactics are designed to bypass your guard. But when you walk in discernment, guard your heart, and keep your rhythms aligned with the Spirit, you become hard ground for the enemy to penetrate. In Spiritual Warfare: Born into Battle, Chapter 9 (pp. …), I share detailed counter-strategies, opposite-spirit responses, and practical drills to keep you ahead of the enemy’s devices. If you don’t yet have your copy, I encourage you to get it and use it as your field manual. The more you train in holy awareness, the more you’ll win battles before they even begin.
