Dreams and Visions: Encountering the Lions, Navigating Spiritual Battles with Wisdom and Faith
By: Minister Denise N. Fyffe
Welcome as we continue our exploration and understanding of dreams and visions. Today, we will explore a dream I had about lions. I have had quite a few dreams with them, and they are as awe inspiring spiritually as I can imagine they are physically.
Throughout scripture, lions symbolize strength, authority, and sometimes spiritual danger or opposition. In this dream, I found myself outdoors, observing a massive fearsome lion that was on the prowl.
The Dream:
“I recall standing at the front of a house. Around the corner came a huge male lion. He was huge. I watched, and he looked at me. I stepped back inside but kept watching. He crossed the street to my side and kept walking. Then I realized a lot of lions were about. I noticed some were around me—one to the left, I think, and one right in front of me. I wanted to carefully step back so I didn’t startle them. She looked at me, tense, but never attacked. She walked off to join the others. There were a lot of lions.
When I went into the house, I told a man and a woman—to be careful outside, as there were a lot of lions. As we headed out, we got into what felt like a tiny car 🚙. It felt like I was driving while lying back. I looked up to see if any lions were above in the tree or outside. I didn’t see them anymore. I continued driving us away.”
The Analysis and Interpretation
In this dream, it was vividly highlighted a critical spiritual lesson about facing life’s challenges and threats with faith, wisdom, and discernment.
This encounter reflects a critical spiritual reality: we are frequently surrounded by challenges, trials, and unseen dangers, much like lions lurking about. The Bible reminds us in 1 Peter 5:8:
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”
Vigilance, therefore, becomes our spiritual posture. My careful movements in the dream, my quiet caution, symbolize the importance of discernment and wisdom in the face of threats.
The dream also emphasized another important principle: the need to protect and warn others. Upon entering a safe space, I warned those within about the lions outside. This aligns with our calling as believers—not only to navigate spiritual battles ourselves but to serve as watchmen, guiding and protecting others from spiritual harm (Ezekiel 33:6).
Interestingly, as I departed the danger zone, I did so in a small, somewhat vulnerable vehicle. Even as I drove cautiously, aware of my surroundings, I recognized that my safety wasn’t rooted in the strength of the vehicle but rather in divine protection. This reminds us that even when we feel vulnerable or ill-equipped, God provides safety and direction. Psalm 91:11-12 reassures us, “For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands, they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.”
Thus, the dream offered profound insights:
-
Vigilance and discernment are crucial in facing life’s spiritual lions.
-
Divine protection accompanies us even amidst visible threats.
-
We must warn and guide others, embodying our responsibility as spiritual watchmen.
The Take Away
In your spiritual journey, remember to trust in the Lord’s divine protection, stay vigilant and wise, and never forget your responsibility toward others. Like Daniel in the lions’ den, trust that God’s protective power is greater than any adversarial threat. You are never alone in the battle—God goes before you and with you, ensuring victory and safety on your path.
