The Christian Life: Be Careful Who You Get Caught Up With
By: Denise N. Fyffe
Meeting some people is like meeting the devil. Looking into their eyes is like being in a trance by him. Listening to their words you understand how Eve came under the spell. But, except you are re-born in the spirit and cleansed by the Blood of Jesus Christ, you will surely be lost in them.
You will surely lay your bed, gladly in hell.-Poetess Denise Fyffe
While our journey of faith may lead us to encounter various individuals, not everyone we meet is a beacon of light. Some individuals exude an aura of darkness that feels akin to encountering the devil himself. Their eyes may hold a hypnotic power, captivating us with their allure, and their words may entice and ensnare us, much like how Eve fell under the spell of deception in the Garden of Eden. These encounters serve as a stark reminder of the spiritual battle surrounding us, and without being born again in the spirit and cleansed by the precious Blood of Jesus Christ, we risk being consumed by the darkness that surrounds such individuals.
“Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company corrupts good morals.’” – 1 Corinthians 15:33 (ESV)
In 1 Corinthians, the Apostle Paul warns against the dangers of keeping company with those who do not walk in the light of God’s truth.
When we surround ourselves with individuals who do not align with God’s principles, we expose ourselves to corrupting influences that can lead us astray from our faith and moral compass. It is imperative that we guard our hearts and minds and remain grounded in our re-birth in the spirit through Jesus Christ.
As Christians, we must be vigilant in our interactions, mindful of the company we keep and the impact it has on our spiritual walk. When we encounter individuals who seem to emanate darkness, it becomes all the more critical for us to seek refuge in the light of Christ.
By continually surrendering our lives to Jesus, allowing His cleansing Blood to wash over us, and immersing ourselves in His Word, we find the strength to resist the allure of darkness. It is through the transforming power of the Holy Spirit that we can discern the true nature of those we encounter and stand firm in our faith, refusing to be enticed into laying our bed in the darkness of hell.
As we navigate this world filled with both light and darkness, let us always seek to surround ourselves with godly influences, seeking the counsel of fellow believers who encourage us in our faith journey.
In doing so, we can confidently face encounters with those who may exude darkness, knowing that we are anchored in the truth and protected by the power of Christ’s redeeming love.
