Dreams and Visions: How to Interpret Dreams of Snakes
By: Minister Denise N. Fyffe
Welcome Dreamer, dreams of snakes often point to spiritual deception and hidden threats, echoing the original serpent in Eden who “was more crafty than any of the wild animals” (Genesis 3:1). Overall seeing a snake in a dream or vision is not good. They depict the presence of evil.
In John 8:44, Jesus equates that same “ancient serpent” with Satan—“the murderer from the beginning” who distorts truth and sows division. Paul even warns that just as Eve was led astray by cunning words, our “pure and undivided devotion” to Christ can be corrupted if we’re not vigilant (2 Corinthians 11:3).
Thus, waking to a snake in your dream may be God’s nudge to examine areas of temptation, betrayal, or lies in your life.
Yet these dreams aren’t meant to leave us paralyzed by fear but empowered by faith. Scripture promises that “the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet” (Romans 16:20) and that we’ve been given “authority over all the power of the enemy” (Luke 10:19).
We do this by “putting on the full armor of God” so we can “stand firm against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:11).
Interpreting a snake dream, then, becomes an invitation to repentance, prayer, and bold reliance on Christ, transforming a vision of fear into a testimony of victory.
Note: Your dream can also have a different meaning – unique to you. Therefore, examine the other symbols, characters, and current situation in your life.
