Dreams and Visions: How to Interpret Dreams About Flies
By: Minister Denise N. FyffeWelcome Dreamer, in the hush of sleep, swarms of flies can feel like a stench invading your soul. Like a stark reminder of spiritual decay. Scripture likens even a few dead flies spoiling fragrant oil to a little folly spoiling wisdom and honor (Ecclesiastes 10:1), and it uses dense swarms in Egypt to signal the ruin that comes from hard‐hearted disobedience (Exodus 8:24). If your dream finds you brushing away buzzing intruders, it’s as if God is spotlighting areas of your life tainted by neglect, hidden sins, or unaddressed hurts. But these pests aren’t sent simply to alarm—they’re meant to redirect.
Just as Paul urges us to “be alert and of sober mind” because our adversary prowls like a lion (1 Peter 5:8), and to “set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:2), your dream invites vigilance and refocus.
Start by naming the “flies”—identify distractions, confess corrosion, and invite Christ’s cleansing touch. As you lean into prayer, Scripture, and community, you’ll discover that what began as a warning dream becomes the catalyst for renewal and deeper intimacy with the One who makes all things new.
Note: Your dream can also have a different meaning – unique to you. Therefore, examine the other symbols, characters, and current situation in your life.
