Daily Journal: The Importance of Praying for God to Command Your Morning
By: Minister Denise N. Fyffe
I encourage you that no matter the challenges you face in life, you must continue praying and seeking God. It is important to pray and ask God to command our morning because we never know the obstacles we might face ahead.
The Story
One day, I woke up like any other day, made a declaration before getting up and after putting on my clothes went downstairs to work in my garden. At the top of the stairs, I started praying and covering myself under the blood of Jesus.
I said my prayer, the same one God gave me several years ago:
“Lord, I submit my mind, my body, my thoughts, my spirit and my soul to the will of the Holy Spirit. Please command my day.“
I headed out into the backyard and began sweeping up and cutting the overgrown weeds. I soon felt a little off in my tummy and after visiting the restroom, came outside to chill for a minute – before starting my chores again. I started feeling sick to my stomach and got up to go to the restroom again.
I slid off my grass covered slippers and stepped inside.
The right foot made it safely, but the left foot kissed the door jam and that landed me in a world of agony. And…blood dripping, foot grabbing, toe nail splitting, loud moaning pain ensued.
Sigh.
In all things, I give thanks.
What Would’ve Happened If I Hadn’t Prayed?
Later, after visiting urgent care, I pondered. What worse fate was waiting for me that morning? What unseen arrow did the Lord allow me to dodge? I thank God that my foot is wrapped up and I still have life.
I’m reminded that prayer isn’t optional for a believer—it’s vital armor. It’s not just how we talk to God; it’s how we authorize Heaven’s intervention in our daily lives. Every morning presents spiritual battles, distractions, and decisions that shape the course of our lives.
What Does It Mean to Command the Morning?
To “command your morning” is to prophetically set the tone for your day, aligning your spirit, your mind, and your environment under God’s will and divine order. You don’t just wake up and “see how the day goes.” No, child of God, you speak into your day—you declare God’s Word and invite His governance.
Job 38:12 (NKJV):
“Have you commanded the morning since your days began, and caused the dawn to know its place?”
This verse reminds us that there is power in our mouth, authority in our prayers, and spiritual dominion available to us at the break of day. When we command our morning in the name of Jesus, we are standing in our Kingdom authority.
Why Is Morning Prayer Important?
-
You Secure Divine Protection.
When you pray first thing in the morning, you cover yourself, your family, your job, your finances—everything—under the blood of Jesus.
Psalm 91:11 (NKJV): “For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.” -
You Set a Spiritual Guard Over Your Mind.
The morning is when the enemy often sows seeds of doubt, fear, or distraction. Morning prayer keeps your thoughts aligned with God’s truth.
Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV): “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You.” -
You Release God’s Promises Over Your Day.
Declarations are not wishful thinking—they are Word-based proclamations that activate spiritual laws.
Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV): “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” -
You Intercept the Enemy’s Assignments.
Many attacks are plotted in the night and launched early in the day. But your prayer in the morning cancels the enemy’s plans.
Psalm 5:3 (NKJV): “My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning I will direct it to You, and I will look up.”

A Morning Prayer You Can Use
Heavenly Father, I thank You for the breath of life and the opportunity to serve You today. I submit my mind, my body, my soul, and spirit to You. Let Your will be done in my life. I command my morning and declare that every demonic agenda be overturned in Jesus’ name. Let peace, favor, protection, and provision follow me. I align with the plans of Heaven. I bind confusion, fear, delay, and sabotage. Let your angels go before me, and let Your name be glorified in all I do today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
The Take Away
Dear reader, don’t live passively. Pray proactively. Each morning is a fresh battlefield and a new opportunity. Speak life, declare God’s Word, and align your day with Heaven’s agenda.
