Stages of the Dreamer (Part 3)
By: Minister Denise N. Fyffe
“When there is a prophet among you, I, the LORD, reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams…” – Numbers 12:6
Just a human being passes through different stages of development – from childhood into adulthood, a dreamer has a similar process and potential. If you have not yet done so, review Part 1 and 2 of the earlier stages of being a dreamer.Functional (Mid-Level)
Someone at the mid-level fluctuates between basic and proficiency. They can generally interpret when a dream is straight and heed and apply it to their daily lives. They might also struggle with symbolic dreams. God shows them periodically dreams that are of worldly importance or impact. They make more effort in learning the dream quotes and pay attention when they are presented. It is similar to someone being able to carry on a casual introductory conversation in French or Spanish. They can ask directions, or order from a menu. However, they cannot follow along if someone starts speaking at the speed of light or about broader conversations. Being mid-level or functional can be seen as a launching pad or catalyst for proficiency. That person has to pursue knowledge and growth in dream interpretation. They also must develop and foster a relationship with the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit, the dreams cannot have the maximum effects on not only the dreamer but on others. The interpretation can possibly come in hindsight or after the fact.
Furthermore, the journey of understanding dreams can be likened to the spiritual growth depicted in the Bible, where individuals progress from initial awareness to deeper comprehension through divine guidance. In the context of dream interpretation, a functional or mid-level individual may resonate with the experience of the young prophet Samuel, who initially did not recognize the Lord’s voice in his dreams (1 Samuel 3:1-10). As they grow in their spiritual journey, they learn to discern and interpret the messages in their dreams, much like Daniel, who was given the ability to understand visions and dreams of all kinds (Daniel 1:17).
The Bible speaks of dreams as a means through which God communicates His will and guidance. For instance, Joseph’s ability to interpret dreams was pivotal in revealing God’s foresight and provision during times of famine (Genesis 40:8). Similarly, a person at the mid-level of dream interpretation may begin to see the significance of their dreams and how they apply to their life and the lives of others, akin to Joseph’s growing understanding of his own dreams about his future (Genesis 37:5-11).
Proficient
Someone who has achieved proficiency only struggles intermittently and possibly with highly symbolic dreams. They understand the basics and apply it to their lives. Proficient dreamers have dreams and visions regularly. They use the Bible, books and articles to tap into a deeper understanding and God frequently communicates with them. They have also gotten to the point where they receive visions and know the distinction between visions and dreams. As you advance to proficiency in dream interpretation, you may find parallels in the Bible with those who are deeply connected to the Holy Spirit. The Bible describes how God poured out His Spirit upon individuals, granting them visions and dreams (Acts 2:17). A proficient dream interpreter, therefore, may experience a heightened sense of spiritual insight, much like the apostle Peter, who received visions that guided him in spreading the Gospel (Acts 10:9-16). Also, someone who is proficient, has an established relationship with God and relies solely on the Holy Spirit for knowledge, interpretation, and understanding of what God is saying to them in those moments or dreams. There is also a high possibility that this person operates in the prophetic as well and is being used by God to broadcast his messages. The Bible emphasizes the importance of seeking wisdom and revelation from God alone, cautioning against false prophets and misleading dreams (Jeremiah 23:32). A proficient individual relies on the Holy Spirit for the true interpretation of dreams, ensuring that their understanding aligns with divine truth, as exemplified by Joseph, who recognized that interpretations belong to God (Genesis 40:8).Conclusion
The biblical approach to dream interpretation suggests a journey of spiritual maturation, where one moves from initial recognition to a profound partnership with the Holy Spirit. This progression mirrors the biblical accounts of individuals who, through divine revelation in dreams and visions, gained wisdom and played crucial roles in God’s plan. By fostering a relationship with the Holy Spirit and seeking understanding through prayer and scripture, one can navigate the complexities of dream interpretation with confidence and clarity. Be encouraged.Read More:
