Spiritual Warfare: Born into Battle – Part 1
Teaching Series: Born into Battle – Equipping the Saints for Spiritual Warfare By: Minister Denise N. Fyffe
Welcome to Lesson 1 in our new Spiritual Warfare teaching series. I promised in my previous article – Daily Journal: The Lord Wants Us to Focus on Spiritual Warfare – that I will be focusing on Spiritual Warfare and providing lessons resources, exercises etc. to help equip you in your Christian Life. As such, I have prepared several lessons and books on the topic. Over the next couple of months, we will cover many topics.
To ensure that these lessons are effective in your life and bear fruit, ensure to get a notebook. As you will go back to what you have written in the years to come.
Before the start of each lesson, settle yourself, pray softly for the Holy Spirit to guide you. May the Lord in his wisdom, open your mind, heart, and spirit for what’s to come.
“He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.” – Matthew 12:30 (NKJV)
Introduction
I remember sitting quietly one evening, reflecting on how much life had changed since I first gave my heart to the Lord. At the time, I didn’t have the language for it, but I knew something had shifted. It was as though a curtain had been pulled back and I could sense that life was more than what I could see. Over the years, I’ve come to understand that this awareness was the Holy Spirit awakening me to the reality of spiritual warfare. It’s not something reserved for pastors, prophets, or “special” Christians — it’s the daily reality of every believer.
Understanding the Reality of the Battle
From the moment we are born, we enter a world where good and evil are in conflict. The Bible doesn’t sugarcoat this. Paul writes, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12, NKJV).
This means that the challenges we face are not merely about people or circumstances — there are spiritual forces at work behind the scenes. Recognizing this truth changes how we respond to life’s pressures. Instead of fighting people, we learn to address the spiritual roots of the problem.
