Dreams and Visions: The Ship and the Sea – Navigating Change, Death, and Divine Protection
By: Minister Denise N. Fyffe
Dreamers, welcome back to our journey through dreams and visions as we seek divine insight and spiritual understanding. Today’s dream is filled with vivid imagery of ships, storms, and transitions—common symbols that point to life’s spiritual journeys, the passage between seasons, and sometimes, the presence of death.
The Bible speaks often in metaphor, and ships are frequently seen as vessels of purpose, transition, or salvation—as with Noah, Jonah, and the disciples in storms with Jesus. This dream brings us into deep spiritual waters—quite literally—and reminds us of the need for discernment, trust, and readiness for the journey.
The Dream:
“One morning I dreamt that I was on a huge ship 🚢. I was at the front, or point. I saw a hand push off from the dock—not caring if everyone was boarded or off the ramp. I watched as it moved away. I wondered about those left behind. I saw persons were, but I also saw two people dead in the water.
As the ship navigated a course, I saw the body of an old man—white —floating on the water. The ship 🚢 easily navigated some white-looking stumps in the water 🌊, which kept it on a path. Then it continued sailing out.
Next, I was on a large canoe 🛶 with strong men. One wanted something. He was half the size of the others—one looked like The Rock (Dwayne Johnson). I saw a ball in blue, red, and white, under the water, I saw through the eyes of a sea creature that seemed drawn to it. I didn’t feel or see the attack, but I saw everyone marooned on the seashore.
The, I was standing with them at the water’s edge, helping to pull the canoe up onto shore, which now looked like a long black zipped bag. Later, I was under some shelter, and a girl appeared, which made me wonder how she got there—if we were truly stranded. Then, I saw a white funeral van go past and knew a procession was underway.”
The Interpretation and Lessons
This dream speaks to profound spiritual truths about death, transition, protection, and preparedness.
1. A Ship Setting Sail – Divine Timing and Transition
The dream opens with a ship leaving the dock, seemingly prematurely. This reflects the suddenness with which seasons in our lives change. Sometimes transitions come without warning or full preparation. The hand that pushes off may represent divine timing or unseen forces at work beyond our control. Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us, “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.”
Spiritual Insight: When a spiritual ship departs—whether it’s a shift in ministry, relationships, or calling—we must be ready. Missed boarding can symbolize lost opportunities, or those not spiritually ready for the next level.
2. Dead in the Water – The Reality of Spiritual Death
Seeing dead people in the water is not to be taken lightly. Water, often symbolizing the spirit realm, reveals those who didn’t make it or were unprepared. Spiritually, this reflects those who are overtaken by life’s storms, either by sin, passivity, or spiritual slumber.
Revelation 3:1 speaks of those who have “a name that you are alive, but you are dead.” It calls us to wake up and strengthen what remains.
3. The Sea Creature and the Canoe – Attacks of the Enemy
The colored ball attracted a sea creature—often a symbol of demonic attack or spiritual interference. That the people were marooned shows survival, but also displacement. This reminds us of 1 Peter 5:8, that our enemy, the devil, “prowls around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.”
Yet, we see protection and provision: the canoe morphs into a black bag—symbolizing the ability to pack up and move forward, to recover and reorient even after storms.
4. The Funeral Procession – A Warning and Confirmation
The presence of a funeral procession, including a white van, signifies the finality of death, spiritual or natural. Sometimes, God reveals death in dreams to prepare us, to awaken prayer, or to highlight spiritual lethargy in others.
Ezekiel 33:6 reminds us of our watchman role: “But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet…his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.”
The Takeaway
-
Be spiritually prepared for transitions—your “ship” may move sooner than you think.
-
Recognize the signs of spiritual death around you and pray.
-
Expect enemy resistance but trust in divine protection and provision.
-
Watch and warn—your role may be to intercede and prepare others.
