Stages of the Dreamer (Part 4)

“Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I, the LORD, make Myself known to him in a vision…” — Numbers 12:6 (NKJV)

We are at the final and most significant stage of being a dreamer. We should all covet to be advanced and develop mastery in dreams and visions. Understandably this leads to developing a close relationship and understanding of God as well.

Advanced

Within this RTCLM framework, an advanced dreamer is someone who has developed greater maturity in recording, testing and stewarding dreams. Joseph and Daniel are biblical examples of people whom God enabled to understand dreams and revelation, but modern dreamers should not be equated with them merely because they have frequent or vivid dreams.

Greater experience should produce humility, careful discernment and responsible teaching where a person is genuinely called and equipped to serve others.

David’s anointing in 1 Samuel 16:13 concerns his calling as king and should not be used as evidence for an advanced stage of dream interpretation. Joseph is the clearer biblical example here: in Genesis 41, God enabled him to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams. The emphasis should remain on God as the source of true understanding rather than on status or rank among dreamers.

Daniel 9:3 records Daniel setting his face toward God in prayer, supplication, fasting, sackcloth and ashes. His visions are recorded elsewhere in the book, but verse 3 itself is about seeking God, not receiving a vision.

Frequency of visions should not be used as a biblical measure of spiritual maturity. Paul describes extraordinary visions and revelations in 2 Corinthians 12:1–4, but the passage does not establish a standard frequency for other believers.

They have a deep relationship with God. Furthermore, they do not operate outside the ordinances provided by God on their lives.

Exodus 40:16 commends Moses for doing according to all that the LORD commanded him. That obedience is a sound principle for every believer. It does not establish that mature dreamers generally become prophets; receiving dreams or visions and holding the prophetic office are distinct matters that must not be conflated.

Like the prophets of old, modern-day seers and dreamers may be called by God to serve, warn, encourage, teach, or intercede within their communities according to the grace and assignment given to them. Where a person also carries a prophetic calling, that responsibility must be stewarded with humility, obedience, and biblical accountability. Receiving dreams alone, however, should not be treated as proof of prophetic office.

This deep relationship with God and adherence to His guidance ensures that their spiritual journey is one of obedience and reverence, much like the great prophets and leaders of the Bible.

The Other Side

It is important to note that God does not take away His gift from someone simply because they do not use it to honor or glorify Him.

This means that people with bad or evil agendas do receive dreams and visions, but more so from demonic spirits and use them for nefarious reasons. This can be the likes of psychics which is spiritualist or even self-appointed prophets (those not called by God) in your church, who live double lives and have strayed from the word of God. They chose to use their gifts, to abuse the body of Christ.

Oftentimes, this is subtle and not easily detected, at first or by their closest followers. They are deceived and caught up and enchanted by them through their tactics.

They walk a very fine line and can be hard to distinguish or to discern when someone has gone this route. However, over time, a pattern develops and with discernment, you will notice.

It becomes clearer that they have strayed from the Word of God.

Be Encouraged

My encouragement to you is to keep a couple of things on your ‘to do list’ as you seek knowledge, interpretation, and understanding.

First, keep God as you focus. Keep in mind this center and hold everything up to his light for clarity.
Second, write down your dreams and visions.
Next, ask the Holy Spirit to help you in every way – to help you fully understand, heed and execute whatever is needed from your side.
Then disown sin. Shun a sinful life. Repent and submit everything that you are to the will of God. You will be used more.
Also seek to grow. Be better. Understand that you are special, and God is paying attention to you and your life.
